The Forbidden Palace's Shadows: Princess An and 7th Prince's Confrontation - Part 14
第241章 Chapter 241
Chapter 242
Chapter 242
It had been raining heavily all night, and the weather was much cooler now. VUitley lay in bed listening to the sound of raindrops pattering against her windowsill. She had returned to the capital a few days ago with Prince Yi Shou from their family's estate.
Suddenly, she heard footsteps approaching outside her door. It was Hao Xing again. Despite her previous request for him not to come anymore, he kept showing up unannounced at all hours of the night.
VUitley felt both annoyed and curious about his persistence. What did he want from her now? She sat up in bed and called out sharply, "Hao Xing! Stop coming here uninvited!"
The door opened and Hao Xing stepped inside, dripping wet from the rain. He looked at VUitley with a guilty expression.
"I know I shouldn't be here," he said quietly. "But I missed you so much, I couldn't stay away any longer."
VUitley stared at him coldly. "You're pathetic. Get out before Prince Yi Shou finds you here and kills you!"
Hao Xing flinched at her harsh words but didn't move. He looked into VUitley's eyes pleadingly.
"Just give me one more night with you," he begged. "I swear I'll leave tomorrow and never come back."
VUitley hesitated, caught between throwing him out and giving in to his request. The rain continued to pour down outside as she wrestled with her emotions.
Finally, she let out a heavy sigh. "Fine. One more night. But this is the last time!"
Hao Xing's face lit up with joy as he stepped closer to VUitley's bed. She moved over to make room for him under the covers.
As they lay there listening to the rain, Hao Xing reached out and gently caressed VUitley's cheek. She turned her head away from his touch but didn't stop him.
"You're so beautiful," he murmured softly. "I'm sorry I've been such a fool."
VUitley said nothing, closing her eyes as Hao Xing continued to stroke her face tenderly. Outside, the rain gradually began to let up until it stopped entirely.
In the morning light, VUitley woke up alone in bed again. Hao Xing had kept his word and left while she was still sleeping. She sat up with a sigh, knowing this would be their last night together.
As she got dressed and prepared for the day ahead, VUitley wondered if Hao Xing's departure meant he finally understood that they could never be together again. Or perhaps it was simply his way of saying goodbye before moving on with someone else...
VUitley shook her head to clear away such thoughts. She had more important things to focus on now - like her upcoming wedding to Prince Yi Shou.
It would take time for the pain of losing Hao Xing to fade, but she knew she must try her best to be a good wife and future mother to their children. No matter how much it hurt inside...
VUitley squared her shoulders and walked out of the bedroom with renewed determination. She had no intention of letting anyone see just how broken-hearted she really was underneath.
She would face whatever challenges lay ahead, just as she always had before - one step at a time.
For now though... VUitley allowed herself one last silent farewell to Hao Xing in her heart:
Farewell my love. I will never forget you. But it's time for us both to move on with our separate lives now...

第243章 Chapter 243
VUitley let out a sigh of relief as she looked around and saw that the maids were waiting under the trees nearby, with no one else in sight. She knew she had to be careful about what she said, since the Divine Pills were a gift from the Emperor and shouldn't be casually spoken of.
Moreover, everyone trusted the Divine Pills implicitly, believing that taking them would result in having a son. People were desperate for them, and if VUitley spoke ill of them, they would surely accuse her of great disrespect and punish her severely.
VUitley bit her lip and said softly to Lily, "Leave Mother, I heard that all the people who came here today wanted to ask you about the Divine Pill. You... be careful."
Today was the birthday celebration of the Imperial Concubine瑞, and she had come with Lady Wife of the Loyal and Brave Duke.
Earlier, when VUitley went to greet the Imperial Concubine瑞, she heard many people discussing the Divine Pills, saying that the Lady Wife of the Loyal and Brave Duke was here to seek guidance from Lily.
VUitley couldn't help but feel anxious. Since marrying into the Duke of Loyalty and Bravery's household as his eldest son's wife, VUitley had been respected by her mother-in-law and treated kindly by her husband. But deep down, she knew that her mother-in-law only respected her because of her friendship with Lily.
VUitley was extremely grateful to Lily for this. But more than anything, she hoped that Lily would be safe.
When VUitley heard that the Emperor had actually granted Divine Pills to Lily, she became incredibly worried. Those Divine Pills were clearly fake and could potentially harm one's body. Just like the Emperor in the palace, with his face so old and dreadful-looking, it was clear he had been harmed by ingesting those pills.
So when VUitley arrived at the Imperial Concubine瑞's mansion today, she hurriedly went to find Lily, telling her not to take those Divine Pills.
Lily nodded in agreement, saying she knew they were fake and didn't want to talk about them with anyone.
VUitley smiled and said lightly, "I just arrived too, and heard you came this way, so I came to find you." Then she lowered her voice, "Actually, when I was little, I once heard my grandfather say that in previous dynasties, there were many talented emperors who died from ingesting pills. He used to worry about the Emperor..."
VUitley finally understood why Lily had said what she did earlier. It seemed like those who didn't believe in magical elixirs were quite numerous.
Thinking back to what Hao Xing had said before, VUitley felt a glimmer of understanding. It was likely that in the past, there had been loyal officials who advised the Emperor not to ingest those pills, but the Emperor wouldn't listen or even tolerate hearing such things. Later on, no one dared speak up anymore and simply watched as he killed himself with his own actions.
After sitting there for a while, VUitley and Lily returned to the pavilion area.
There were even more people in the pavilion now, including several Princess Consorts of the Crown Prince. They also hadn't sent invitations to VUitley before, presumably because her husband, Prince Yi Shou, had poor relations with the Crown Princes, so these Princess Consorts probably didn't want to associate with her either.
However, when VUitley encountered those Princess Consorts, she only needed to maintain a polite front. She hadn't expected them to be quite friendly towards her though, pulling her into conversations and asking about the Divine Pills.
VUitley naturally said nothing, and if they asked again, she would just say that she had only taken the Divine Pill recently and didn't know anything yet. The Princess Consorts were quite disappointed by this.
Earlier, before going to greet the Imperial Concubine瑞, VUitley had heard many people discussing the Divine Pills, saying that the Lady Wife of the Loyal and Brave Duke was here to seek guidance from Lily.
VUitley listened intently, realizing that several Princess Consorts were quite eager to learn about the Divine Pill.
The Princess Consort of the Crown Prince was in a difficult situation; her husband had many concubines but no son yet. She was desperate for a son and thought this Divine Pill could help.
After lunch, everyone moved to another garden to watch a play.
Until evening, when all the guests left one by one.
VUitley went to the front courtyard to look for Hao Xing, only to find that not only was he there, but also three Crown Princes (the First, Sixth, and Seventh) as well as the Crown Prince Consort.
The First and Sixth Crown Princes were busy pulling the Crown Prince Consort into a conversation, while the Seventh Crown Prince stood silently holding his fan, as always.
Hao Xing saw VUitley approaching and immediately left with her.
The Seventh Crown Prince also followed them out.
The Crown Prince Consort was feeling quite annoyed, having to put on a happy face even though he didn't want to. He envied Hao Xing's ability to just leave whenever he wanted.
VUitley turned around and saw that the Crown Prince Consort's smile didn't reach his eyes at all.
This young general seemed to still retain some of his untamed spirit, and this place was completely incompatible with him; it was clear that he wouldn't stay in the capital for long.
Back home, VUitley sighed, "I never thought you'd come back to the capital without my knowing. I only found out today when I saw you at the celebration."
Hao Xing explained, "This is a secret mission. Only a few people knew before that I was coming back to the capital."
VUitley's heart sank as she realized what Hao Xing meant.
This old emperor must be guarding against someone.
Hao Xing saw her frowning deeply and said with a smile, "It's nothing much. The Emperor is just feeling unwell lately and wants some reassurance."
VUitley finally understood that the Emperor was afraid of dying.
He didn't trust his sons or his ministers; even his nephew whom he had raised like his own son was not to be trusted.
She looked at Hao Xing, "What if the Emperor doesn't trust you...?"
In the past, she had heard that the Emperor most trusted and gave the most power to his nephew, allowing him to pressure both the Crown Princes and ministers.
Actually, Hao Xing's power wasn't much; the Emperor could easily take it back anytime he wanted. In essence, the current Hao Xing relied too much on the Emperor.
Even now, people would think that Hao Xing was still dependent on the Emperor's favor. But was it really so?
Hao Xing smiled and said, "Aren't you worried about me?"
"Of course!" VUitley felt he had asked a silly question, "What if he poisons you again sometime?"
She thought that in the future, she should keep an eye on him. Even if he were poisoned, at least she could rush over to save his life and prevent him from dying.
Hao Xing was choked by her words.
He tried to defend himself, saying, "I won't make the same mistake again," and then added, "Moreover, Mother's health has improved now, and she'll be returning to court soon."
"What time?" VUitley asked curiously.
Even though Hao Xing and his mother discussed matters privately without avoiding her, VUitley still felt that she wasn't very good at these political maneuvers. Every time they talked about something, she would listen with a blank expression, completely lost.
It was only until some official fell from grace or was exiled from the capital...that she would finally understand what had happened.
The imperial court has been quite chaotic lately; in just over half a year, many ministers have been replaced.
Nowadays, no matter how unconcerned one is, they can still hear news of various incidents happening in the capital.
VUitley had occasionally heard some gossip about certain events taking place, and only then realized that it was the Crown Princess Mother and Hao Xing who had done all this behind the scenes.
Those empty positions were filled by their own people, and even the Emperor, the First Prince, and the Sixth Prince didn't know which of these new officials were working for the Crown Princess Mother.
Nowadays, the situation is that the Emperor, the First Prince, and the Sixth Prince are in the open, while the Crown Princess Mother operates in secret.
Everyone thought she only had a short time left to live; no one took this imperial princess seriously anymore. In reality though, she was planning in the shadows, accumulating power, slowly inserting her own people into positions of authority as she bided her time for an opportunity to return openly to the political arena.
VUitley sighed, "It won't be long."
Hao Xing smiled and said nothing more.
Seeing that he didn't want to discuss it further, VUitley also stopped asking.
"Alright then, you take care of yourself. If you feel unwell at any time, make sure to tell me." She had to keep an eye on him and prevent anyone from poisoning him again.
He smiled and agreed with a nod.
Hao Xing wrapped his arms around her waist, resting his chin lightly on her shoulder, unusually relaxed as he felt an unprecedented sense of peace in his heart.
**
A few days later, VUitley heard that the Emperor had summoned Hao Xing to the palace and appointed him as the head of the imperial guards.
This meant that Hao Xing was no longer going back to the south.
VUitley finally confirmed what she had suspected all along: the Emperor did not trust Hao Xing anymore, and even seemed to be guarding against him.
Later, VUitley heard from Little Seven that people outside were saying Hao Xing's position was precarious; he had done many things to offend others, but the Emperor didn't protect him. People said that in the future, he would definitely come to no good end...
Little Seven was worried sick about this and feared for Hao Xing's wellbeing.
VUitley said calmly, "Don't worry, I'm here."
To which Little Seven stared at her in shock; what did she mean by "I'm here"?
He thought to himself that if the Emperor attacked Hao Xing someday, VUitley would definitely go beat him up and even demolish his entire estate...
Little Seven was momentarily stunned speechless.
Later, when Little Seven came over for a rest day, he was fed dog food by the loving couple again.
Then he thought about how VUitley had said she would be there for Hao Xing...and suddenly felt that it really wasn't necessary to worry about him anymore.
If anyone dared to lay a hand on Hao Xing, they'd have to face VUitley first!
And if the Emperor attacked Hao Xing someday, she'd definitely go beat him up and even demolish his entire estate...
Just imagine if the Third Prince did something against Hao Xing...then VUitley would go punch him and tear down his mansion!
It was so exciting just thinking about it!
Little Seven left with a big grin on his face.
Upon returning to the prince's manor, Prince Yi Shou saw Little Seven's silly smile and couldn't help but frown.
"Where have you been again?" He scolded angrily. "I see you coming back from who knows where every time! Are you afraid that your status as the Prince's heir isn't secure enough, or are you worried about losing your position as Crown Prince?"
Although Little Seven was his son, Prince Yi Shou still felt it was necessary to lecture him sometimes.
"Father..." Little Seven hummed in annoyance. "I went to see Hao Xing."
"What did you go to him for?" Prince Yi Shou's face twitched with anger. "Hao Xing is in a difficult position now; everyone hates him, why do you have to keep going there?"
"Father!" Little Seven was annoyed by his father's words too. "You don't understand! Hao Xing won't be in any danger at all!"
Prince Yi Shou glared at him. "What nonsense are you spouting? Do you think I can protect you forever?"
Even though the Emperor favored Prince Yi Shou, he knew very well that the Emperor didn't trust him; if he made one wrong step, the Emperor could easily strip him of his powers.
Little Seven suddenly pulled him aside and whispered softly, "Father, just find someone reliable, okay?"
Prince Yi Shou was momentarily confused by this remark.
"You're talking nonsense!" He shouted angrily. "Do you think I can't protect myself?"
He was so angry that he looked around to make sure no one else was nearby; fortunately, it was just the two of them here.
Prince Yi Shou then saw Little Seven's silly grin again and felt like punching him in the face.
"You're being ridiculous!" He shouted angrily. "Do you think I can't protect myself?"

**TITLE: The Autumn Hunt**
BODY:
The days of summer gradually pass, the weather becoming less stifling. It's now late July, and a touch of autumn has entered the capital city.
VUitley rarely goes out these days; she just trains her black horse and big tiger.
After one summer of training and acclimation, the black horse can finally carry VUitley for a while at once. Even the big tiger is no longer being scared into collapsing on the ground, barely able to run for a bit.
This day, VUitley rides the black horse around the racetrack for a lap.
The black horse lives up to its name as the Horse King; its speed is incredibly fast, galloping like wind and lightning, extremely pleasing to behold. VUitley also loves this kind of speed from it.
After riding one lap on the black horse, she rides over to where Fuyi Heng is standing outside watching at the racetrack, a bright smile on her face.
She cheerfully says: "Heng, look! The black horse can carry me now!"
Finally, she has a mount.
Fuyi Heng first congratulates her, then looks toward that black horse. He sees it running and running, its legs seem to shake for a moment before standing firm again.
He can't help but feel amused inside.
He had heard that the group of horses sent from the northwest side all injured many people along the way before they could barely send them to the capital city. This black horse's nature is far too fierce; it's much harder to tame than most ferocious beasts, and this kind of fierce nature lets it overcome its fear of carrying her.
VUitley rides around one more lap again, getting more excited each time she runs a circle, wanting the black horse to run another few laps.
But by the tenth lap, the black horse finally collapses with all four legs weak, directly falling forward. If VUitley hadn't reacted extremely quickly and jumped up, only afraid that it would be dragged along as the black horse fell ahead.
Her figure is light and agile, landing in a beautiful posture like flying, not worth mentioning at all to her.
VUitley turns around to look at the black horse lying on the ground, surprised saying: "You actually can't run this far before your legs go weak? You're really called the Horse King?"
Is the Horse King so useless?
Black Horse: "..."
If the black horse could speak now, it would probably be cursing loudly.
Are you not aware of what kind of issues you have on your body? The terrifying force emanating from that person behind you is constantly suppressing it. It can barely carry her for ten laps at a time as the Horse King; if it were an ordinary horse, in front of her it wouldn't even be able to stand up, let alone carry her running.
The Horse King slowly stands up, lowering its head to bite on the grass below to rest a bit.
VUitley sees that it doesn't want to run anymore, so she goes to find the big tiger instead.
Big Tiger: "..."
It also doesn't really want to carry her running.
The big tiger can only walk with weak steps, carrying the person on its back.
What's even more annoying is that when passing by Fuyi Heng just now, the person on top actually invited this male human to sit up together. The big tiger almost wanted to quit.
Unfortunately, it was suppressed.
"Heng, quickly come up," VUitley invites him.
Fuyi Heng flips himself onto the back of the big tiger, sitting with her on the tiger's back.
This is his first time riding a tiger; the feeling is quite good, especially seeing that not-so-willing expression on its face, making him feel even more relaxed. He just likes looking at those who clearly don't want to but still have to bow their heads obediently, be it humans or beasts.
VUitley discovers that compared to the black horse, the big tiger is even more useless; it only runs eight laps before lying directly on the ground, absolutely not willing to move again.
She can only jump down, complaining: "You actually can't even beat a black horse; you're really too useless."
Big Tiger: "..."
Let her say whatever she wants; the big tiger just isn't moving.
The two mounts are too useless, so VUitley turns around and says to Fuyi Heng: "It seems they still need more training before they'll be able to run. Their endurance is bad."
Not only is their stamina lacking, but their speed also doesn't reach the effect she wants.
Fuyi Heng consoles her by saying: "Actually, being able to run ten laps is already quite good; when it's time for Autumn Hunt, you can ride the black horse together with me to run a lap around the hunting ground."
"Autumn Hunt?" VUitley looks at him curiously; she isn't familiar with this.
Fuyi Heng then tells her that every year in July and August, the court holds an autumn hunt in the west mountain area; it's a fixed activity.
This year's Autumn Hunt is set for early August, decided by the Emperor himself.
The Emperor had been wounded during the Dragon Boat Festival and fell ill after returning. Even now, it seems his body still has some ailments; he plans to rest for a while in the West Mountain Palace during this year's Autumn Hunt, also hoping to ease his mind a bit.
As the most trusted nephew of the Emperor, Fuyi Heng will also accompany the Imperial Escort to the west mountain.
In addition, officials of five ranks and above can participate; they can also bring their family ladies along with them.
VUitley hears about this matter related to the Autumn Hunt; naturally she is interested, especially when she hears that there are bonfire evening parties at night during the Autumn Hunt. That makes her even more determined to go.
As long as there's good food, she won't miss it.
Of course, she also isn't completely at ease; now that the Emperor's attitude towards him seems ambiguous, who knows if someone feels he has lost imperial favor and wants to do something against him? If they give him some poison again...
She still needs to go keep an eye on things herself.
**
The two masters of the residence need to accompany the Imperial Escort for the Autumn Hunt; the servants of the Prince's Estate quickly become busy preparing their luggage.
Madam Zhu is worried and instructs VUitley on many matters.
She also knows a bit about the Autumn Hunt; she knows that the Autumn Hunt has always been easy to cause some trouble, requiring special attention.
On the day of departure, the Emperor's imperial procession leaves from the palace gate. Accompanying are the Empresses, Crown Prince, and Princess' carriages; following them is the officials' carriage team.
The Prince's Estate carriage team is not far behind the Emperor; VUitley herself occupies a spacious carriage alone, bringing Qingyun along with her.
Fuyi Heng is by the Emperor's side in the imperial procession.
Even though the Emperor had summoned Promising General to come back to the capital and seemed to indicate his lack of trust towards Fuyi Heng on the surface, in reality he still treats Fuyi Heng very favorably. Many important tasks are still given to him; Fuyi Heng remains as busy as ever.
This also puzzles people.
What is the Emperor's intention?
They had thought that since he wanted to get rid of the Prince, those tasks that should have been given to the Prince would naturally be taken over by others. But now it seems that the Prince still has all the duties that were supposed to belong to him; looking at it, one might think the Prince remains as favored as before by the Emperor. Not long ago, the Emperor had even severely punished several officials because of the Prince.
VUitley sits in the carriage eating and drinking while listening to Qingyun's report.
".... I heard that this time for the Autumn Hunt, His Majesty has appointed Promising General as the commander-in-chief of the Imperial Escort Guards; he has left Duke Wu An in charge of the capital city."
Duke Wu An Wang Pingzhi is an official who recently rose to power under the Emperor's promotion. He is extremely loyal to the Emperor and leaves the Emperor very at ease when leaving him in charge of the capital.
But in the past, whenever the Imperial Escort set out, it was always Fuyi Heng who commanded them.
From this, one can see that the Emperor's attitude towards Fuyi Heng has changed; even though he still assigns many important tasks to him, it is not the same as before. If the Emperor really trusted him, he wouldn't have sent Promising General to take over his position.
VUitley silently listens and then lifts up the curtain, looking toward the carriage team outside.
Coincidentally, Promising General's horse happens to pass by just then; their gazes meet in midair for a moment before quickly moving away. It seems they don't recognize each other at all; soon after, he disappears ahead.
Not long after, Fuyi Heng rides over on his horse.
He doesn't get off the horse but directly leaps from the saddle into VUitley's carriage; Qingyun is startled and quickly stands up to bow before tactfully retiring outside, sitting on the front seat of the carriage as a lookout.
"Heng, why are you here?" VUitley asks in surprise; she pours him a cup of water.
Fuyi Heng drinks it all in one gulp, clearly thirsty. He said: "His Majesty summoned Promising General to speak with him; since there was nothing important over there, I came over."
VUitley doesn't help but look at him; her eyes are black and white, staring fixedly when she looks at someone like this.
"Looking at what?" he asks with a smile, reaching out to tuck away the stray hair beside her ear.
VUitley stares at him for a moment before slowly saying: "The Emperor... your uncle. You must be sad, right?"
The Emperor used to dote on him so much; even his own sons had to come after him. But overnight, this favor seems to have disappeared, leaving such a big gap that it would be hard for anyone to adjust their mindset.
Fuyi Heng sees her looking at him so seriously and changes the words he was about to say. He sighs softly: "Yes..."
She has sympathy in her heart; of course he must be sad. She sits next to him, grabs his face, and kisses him on the mouth to console him: "It's okay, he doesn't want you, so you also don't want him."
These words are very childish, making one want to laugh.
But Fuyi Heng barely restrains himself from laughing out loud; instead, he pulls her into his arms and buries his face in her shoulder. There is no trace of sadness in his eyes, only endless smiles.
"Okay," he says softly, "I listen to Ailing."
Since he is in a bad mood, VUitley decides to treat him better, letting him eat some heart candy.
This trip to the west mountain hunting grounds is expected to take three days; they will live and eat at the post stations along the way.
It would be inconvenient on the road, so it's likely that the food served won't be very good either. Afraid she might not have enough to eat, Madam Zhu specially had the kitchen prepare many snacks for her to bring with them on the road; this carriage has all kinds of portable foods stored in its secret compartments - VUitley is extremely satisfied with this.
VUitley spends most of her time eating and drinking inside the carriage while playing with toys to pass the time. Occasionally she hangs out with Princess Wang and Mo Yinyin, chatting casually.
On the third day at dusk, they finally arrive at the West Mountain Palace.

Chapter 246: The Emperor's Summons
The Emperor summoned Fuyi Heng to the palace early in the morning. He listened to his report about the situation at the West Mountain Palace and left after giving a few orders.
When Fuyi Heng returned, he saw VUitley standing outside the carriage, looking serious. She asked him what happened.
Fuyi Heng sighed and said, "It's nothing important. The Emperor summoned me to discuss some matters."
VUitley frowned slightly. "The Emperor summoned you so early? What did you talk about?"
"He just wanted to know if everything was going smoothly at the West Mountain Palace." Fuyi Heng didn't want VUitley to worry, so he decided not to tell her that the Emperor had appointed Promising General as commander-in-chief of the Imperial Escort Guards instead of him.
VUitley nodded. "That's good then."
Fuyi Heng reached out and gently caressed her cheek. "Let's go inside. I'm hungry."
They climbed into the carriage together, where Qingyun had already prepared some food for them. Fuyi Heng ate his fill while VUitley sat beside him, looking thoughtful.
After a while, Fuyi Heng broke the silence. "What are you thinking about?"
VUitley glanced at him. "Nothing important. Just wondering what that Promising General is like."
Fuyi Heng's eyes narrowed slightly. "Don't worry about him. He's just a tool for the Emperor to use."
They rode on in silence for a while longer before arriving at their destination, an inn located halfway between the West Mountain Palace and the capital city.
As they got out of the carriage, VUitley noticed that Fuyi Heng looked tense. She walked over to him and asked, "What's wrong?"
Fuyi Heng sighed. "I'm just feeling a bit restless. Let's go inside and rest."
VUitley nodded and followed him into the inn.

第247章 Chapter 247
The news of the sixth prince's disappearance spread rapidly through the camp, causing an immediate increase in tension.
Everyone looked on anxiously as they watched the guards clad in armor hurry past. No one dared to move around carelessly within the camp and instead sensibly waited in their tents for word from the Emperor.
Fuhui Princess and Princess Consort of Ruyi were both unable to sit still, so they hastily bade Vile goodbye, leaving her alone.
They had come here today because they feared that Vile would be bored staying by herself. They intended to keep her company playing mahjong, but now that they heard the news about a hunting accident and the sixth prince's disappearance, they could not help but feel worried.
Fuhui Princess wanted to go check on the Emperor. She cared little for what happened to the sixth prince; however, at this moment she was certain to show her concern for him. In all these years, she had managed to become the Emperor's most beloved princess by being his dutiful daughter and doing what he liked. She was determined to continue this practice.
Ruyi Princess Consort, on the other hand, worried deeply about her husband and son, fearful that something might happen to them both.
Her son had also gone hunting in the hunting grounds, and if…
After sending those two away, Vile also ordered Mo Yuxin back home.
Mo Yuxin bit her lip and did not protest. "Mama, I'll come visit you tomorrow."
She was also worried about her husband; this autumn hunt meant that as the eldest son of House of Duke Wu An, he would naturally have to make a display of himself. He had gone hunting every day for the past few days.
The autumn hunt lasted five days before the number of animals hunted by each person was tallied and their rankings determined.
So these five days were the best time for those who wished to show off, as they would all go hunting in the hunting grounds. On this fourth day, there remained quite a few people still going hunting in the hunting grounds.
Vile was also worried about her husband after hearing of the wild animal attack that had occurred in the hunting grounds.
As soon as she sent those away, some palace eunuchs came to inform Vile that the Empress Dowager wanted to see her.
Vile wondered why the Empress Dowager was summoning her at this hour. She hurriedly ordered someone to help her get dressed and follow the palace eunuch over to the Empress Dowager's tent.
The Empress Dowager's tent was quite close to the Emperor's.
When Vile arrived, she happened upon Ruoheng as he exited from the main imperial tent with a group of guards. They both froze at the sight of each other.
Ruoheng walked over to her and said, "Vile, I'm going into the mountains to search for the sixth prince."
Vile saw that he was dressed in tight fighting clothes, a sword hanging from his waist, clearly ready to enter the hunting grounds. She did not find this surprising.
"You be careful," she instructed him before asking, "Do you want me to come with you?"
She didn't quite trust Ruoheng, knowing that the West Mountain hunting grounds were vast. The deeper one went, the more complex the terrain became until it was a deep forest, very easy to get lost in. And not only did wild animals roam freely there, but it was extremely dangerous.
Ruoheng smiled at her words and reached out to straighten the hairpin on Vile's head that had slipped slightly askew. "No need, you stay in camp." His voice lowered, filled with affection for her. "Vile, wait here for me."
The guards behind him bowed their heads obediently, pretending not to have witnessed this scene.
Because time was tight, Ruoheng didn't want to say too much and quickly left with his men.
Vile stood there watching as he rode away on the horse that a guard had brought for him. His figure soon disappeared among the trees of the hunting grounds.
The palace eunuch who led Vile by her side reminded her, "Lady Vile, Her Majesty is still waiting."
Vile came back to herself and nodded.
She walked toward the Empress Dowager's tent while glancing over at the main imperial tent. She saw that many officials had come in and out, all with grim expressions on their faces. Inside the main imperial tent, she could hear a woman's sobbing sounds coming from within.
From those crying sounds, it seemed to be the sixth prince's wife.
Upon arriving at the Empress Dowager's tent, Vile saw that not only was the Empress Dowager there but also several concubines.
The Empress Dowager and the concubines all had gloomy expressions on their faces. Vile didn't know if they were worried about the sixth prince or something else.
When the Empress Dowager saw Vile, she quickly called her over to sit down beside her and said, "Lady Vile is here. His Majesty said that since Rhyolite is going into the mountains looking for the sixth prince, he doesn't feel at ease leaving you alone. He asked me to call you over, so just stay here without worrying."
Actually, according to the Emperor's wishes, they should have sent Vile to him.
But men and women are different; even though he was an emperor, it would not be appropriate for him to invite his nephew-in-law into the main imperial tent. If word of this got out, that would be very bad news, so the Empress Dowager had to step in and invite Vile over instead.
The Empress Dowager wondered why the Emperor had done such a thing.
With Rhyolite's wife's abilities, what was there not to feel at ease about? If something happened to the sixth prince while Rhyolite wasn't here, she wouldn't be flustered or scared like those weak women who relied on their husbands for everything.
Sending Rhyolite into the mountains to look for the sixth prince made sense; sending his wife over was unnecessary. More importantly, if searching for the sixth prince was the goal, then shouldn't they send Rhyolite's wife instead?
The Empress Dowager could understand this logic well. Surely many people knew it too. The Emperor wouldn't not know.
But the Emperor not only didn't let Rhyolite's wife go to look for him, he even had her called over here. What was his intention?
Was he trying to protect Rhyolite's wife or was he suspicious of her?
The Empress Dowager pondered and wondered if it was because the Emperor thought that losing one more prince wasn't a big deal since he still had plenty left.
But even though the Emperor had many sons, now that there were only three princes who hadn't been deposed left, losing one more would leave only two. That number wasn't high and it wouldn't be easy to pick between them either.
Or perhaps the Emperor thought that since he had the Royal Son Dan, he could have as many sons as he wanted in the future?
Thinking of this, the Empress Dowager's mouth twitched slightly.
She didn't understand the Emperor's thoughts at all. Fortunately for her, she hadn't borne him any children, so no matter which prince eventually inherited the throne, it wouldn't affect her.
Vile didn't know what the Empress Dowager was thinking and simply replied, "Then I'll impose on Your Majesty."
Even though she didn't know what the Emperor's intention was, staying anywhere would be fine.
This time, since Vile had stayed in camp every day while everyone else watched, surely no one else would suspect that the sixth prince's disappearance had anything to do with her now?
The Empress Dowager wanted to befriend Vile and said, "Lady Vile, if there is anything you need, just say it."
Then she ordered a palace eunuch beside her to prepare some tea and snacks for Vile. She knew that Rhyolite's wife was very fond of eating.
***
The news about the sixth prince's disappearance arrived in the afternoon. Until nightfall, there were no updates from the hunting grounds or any sign of the soldiers sent into the mountains to search for him.
The camp was unnaturally quiet; not a single person left camp, fearing that their departure would be seen as displeasing to the Emperor.
Finally, it was His Majesty's body that couldn't hold out. Several loyal ministers persuaded him to return to the imperial palace and rest.
Once the Emperor moved, everyone else naturally followed suit and returned to the imperial palace too.
Vile went back with the Empress Dowager.
Returning to the imperial palace, Vile washed up after dinner and stood by the window, staring out at the dark silhouette of the mountain range in the distance. That was West Mountain's direction; from far away, one could see the undulating mountain peaks there.
The night wind blew rather fiercely, causing the windows to creak loudly.
Qingyun put on a coat for her and said, "My Lady, you need not worry. The Prince is only going in to find someone; nothing will happen."
She thought Vile was worrying about Rhyolite, knowing that nighttime forests were dangerous. She hoped the Prince would return safely.
Vile was indeed worried, even though Rhyolite had already been practicing middle-level body techniques. The effects still weren't very apparent, and this nighttime forest wasn't like daytime, with its high risk of danger.
She quickly made up her mind: "Qingyun, I'm going to find Heng."
Qingyun was stunned at her words; she started to try and persuade Vile. "My Lady… that's not appropriate..."
"It doesn't matter," Vile reassured her, letting Qingyun know not to worry about it.
But Qingyun felt like this wasn't an issue of being seen or not, but rather a fear for her safety.
Vile had already made up her mind. She changed into black clothes and even covered her face, ready to go out looking like she was planning on becoming a bandit.
Seeing Vile's confident moves, Qingyun knew that this wasn't the first time Vile had done something like this; she must have often gone out at night when Qingyun didn't know about it.
"Please be very careful, My Lady," Qingyun worried.
Vile said, "Don't worry, as long as I don't want to be seen, no one can discover me! I'll return before dawn. If anyone comes, could you help me cover for me?"
Even though she thought that at this late hour, there shouldn't be anyone looking for her. She was just afraid that the Emperor might suddenly call for her.
Having prepared everything, Vile jumped out from the window and climbed onto the roof.
It happened to be a new moon night with no moonlight; only stars shone brightly in the sky. This made it very convenient for her when she went out at night.
Qingyun stood by the window, watching as Vile instantly disappeared into the darkness outside. She sighed helplessly and could only obediently pretend that Vile was still resting in bed. She had to make sure no one found out about tonight's adventure.
***
After leaving the imperial palace, Vile ran straight toward the hunting grounds.
She avoided the soldiers on patrol along the way and followed a small path until she entered the hunting grounds. Then, she quickly sped up her pace, swiftly navigating through the dark forest of West Mountain.
The deeper one went into this mountain, the darker it got; even starlight couldn't penetrate the darkness.
However, for Vile, this was no problem at all; she could see clearly in the dark. Her speed even exceeded that of those riding horses ahead of her.
One way or another, Vile soon discovered people along the way.
As she approached a group of soldiers holding torches in the dark mountain forest, she saw them from afar. They were searching for someone.
Old Emperor had been very concerned about the sixth prince; besides ordering Rhyolite to find him, he also dispatched many soldiers stationed at West Mountain's hunting grounds to join the search. These soldiers had all been assigned different positions by Rhyolite and sent off in groups under his command.
Vile stood on a tree branch high up above, looking down at the searching party below. She didn't see any sign of Rhyolite among them anywhere; she continued onward.
Throughout this journey, Vile encountered several more groups of people entering the mountains to search. None of these people were Rhyolite either, so she kept going deeper into the forest.
The further one went into West Mountain, the denser the trees became and the more complex the terrain got; it was very easy to get lost.
This place had large wild beasts living there as well as wolf packs.
Perhaps feeling her presence, a wolf pack's leader let out a long howl. It immediately ordered its group of wolves to quickly run away from this area.
Vile saw this and followed behind the fleeing wolf pack.
The exhausted wolf pack ran with all their might; no matter how fast they ran, they couldn't shake Vile off chasing them. If that wolf leader could talk, he would probably be cursing loudly now, questioning why she was always pursuing them like this.
Vile thought animal senses were more acute than humans'. Maybe by following them, she'd be able to find someone.
Her own senses weren't bad either but searching for a person in such a vast mountain forest wasn't easy. That's why she chose to borrow the help of animals instead.
Chasing after the wolf pack that was running ahead as if its life depended on it, Vile finally found people.
Just then, those exhausted wolves who were about to collapse also let out an "Ahhhh" cry, rushing past the group of torch-bearing people in front of them.
Everyone's faces changed at once. They all picked up their weapons, thinking they would have a fierce battle ahead when the wolf pack simply passed them by without fighting at all and ran away.
Rhyolite subconsciously looked into the dark forest behind him, but unfortunately there was nothing to see around here in this darkness.
The man opposite him, Prince You, tightly stared at Rhyolite. He didn't miss his reaction just now; he instantly became vigilant and secretly gripped onto his sword.

TITLE: The Search
BODY:
Vile quickly ran toward the hunting grounds, avoiding the soldiers on patrol along the way.
She followed a small path until she entered the hunting grounds. Then she sped up her pace, swiftly navigating through the dark forest of West Mountain.
The deeper one went into this mountain, the darker it got; even starlight couldn't penetrate the darkness.
However, for Vile, this was no problem at all; she could see clearly in the dark. Her speed even exceeded that of those riding horses ahead of her.

Rhyolite glanced around and saw several soldiers approaching him from afar. He quickly turned his horse's head in another direction without hesitation, urging it forward faster while shouting at Vile:
"Hold on tightly! We need to get out of here!"
The sound of galloping hooves filled the air as Rhyolite rode away from West Mountain with Vile clinging tightly behind him. They rode through dense forests and over hills until finally reaching a riverbank where they stopped for a moment.
Vile looked around cautiously before asking:
"What happened last night when you went missing during hunting?"
Rhyolite sighed heavily while staring at the flowing water ahead of them silently for some time. Then he began recounting what had happened to him yesterday morning inside West Mountain's forest area with everyone else present during their annual autumn hunt.
He told Vile how Prince You suddenly attacked him out of nowhere and how they fought fiercely until Rhyolite managed to escape deep into the mountains where no one could find or hear them. He also explained that he had been hiding there since then, waiting for a chance to return safely back home before dawn when everyone else returned after finishing their searches within West Mountain forest area.
After listening intently without interrupting once throughout Rhyolite's entire story, Vile finally asked:
"Why didn't you come back sooner?"
Rhyolite sighed again and replied:
"I was too injured; I couldn't move properly or make it back before dawn when everyone else returned after finishing their searches within West Mountain forest area."
Vile nodded slowly while pondering over what Rhyolite had just told her. She knew that Prince You must have attacked him for some reason, but she didn't know why yet.
"Let's go back now," Vile said calmly after thinking for a moment. "We should return before the Emperor or Empress Dowager finds out about this."

The galloping hooves of Rhyolite's horse carried them swiftly away from West Mountain forest area towards town under moonlight above them now until finally reaching the imperial palace gates early in the morning just before dawn broke over horizon line.
Rhyolite dismounted first then helped Vile down safely onto ground outside those tall walls surrounding entire complex inside which housed various buildings and structures including Emperor's main hall where he resided during autumn hunts each year.
After making sure that Vile was safe, Rhyolite walked towards a nearby guard who saluted him respectfully upon recognizing his identity as one of the princes.
"Report!" The guard said loudly while standing straight up with military posture.
Rhyolite nodded calmly before replying:
"I'm here to see the Emperor."
The guard immediately led Rhyolite inside towards the main hall where they found His Majesty seated on his throne looking very tired and worried as well.
"Your Majesty," Rhyolite said while bowing low in front of him. "I've returned safely."

The Emperor stared at Rhyolite coldly, not even bothering to hide his displeasure from showing on his face as he spoke:
"You dare come back here after causing such trouble last night? I should strip you of your title and throw you into jail!"
Vile stood beside Rhyolite and quickly bowed down before the Emperor while saying:
"Your Majesty, please forgive him! It's my fault; I was the one who insisted on going out looking for him."
The Emperor looked at Vile coldly. "You? What right do you have to leave camp?"
Vile lowered her head and replied quietly:
"I'm sorry, Your Majesty. I couldn't bear being separated from Rhyolite even if only for one night."

The Emperor ordered several guards standing nearby to escort them out immediately before turning away without looking back at either of them again.
Rhyolite and Vile could only follow behind those soldiers obediently as they were led outside the main hall towards their residence within imperial palace complex.

Rhyolite looked up at Vile with gratitude but still feeling frustrated about being grounded within imperial palace complex now. He knew that it would take some time before he could go out hunting again or even leave this place without permission from his father.
However, Vile's words made him feel better somehow; if she believed in him then maybe everything would work out fine after all...

第249章 Chapter 249
Three Royal Brother was actually the most concerned about Sixth Royal Brother's life and death, when he heard that傅闻宵 actually really found Sixth Royal Brother back, his first reaction was unhappy.
He gnashed his teeth and snarled, how come even though I sent someone over to wait for an opportunity to move, it still let 傅闻宵 good good find the person back?
But when he heard that Sixth Royal Brother although saved back, but his eyes were gone, he couldn't help but be happy.
"Old six's eyes really can't see anymore?" Three Royal Brother excitedly asked.
"Yes." The subordinate replied, "I heard that Sixth Royal Brother was chased by a bear at night, accidentally fell down the mountain, one eye was pricked by a sharp tree branch, he was carried back all covered in blood..."
This news made Three Royal Brother excited all over his body.
In these few years, except for six Royal Brother, the others were either stupid or bad or not ambitious, nothing to worry about. He also always regarded six Royal Brother as a heart disease, as long as he could press down six Royal Brother, wouldn't this throne still be mine?
Six Royal Brother's maternal clan is Duke of Jing's Mansion, and there are quite a few ministers who support him.
Three Royal Brother knew in his heart that his mother's clan Kan House was no match for Duke of Jing's Mansion, especially since Kan House had already no more, he almost got entangled by the thing Kan House did, his maternal clan couldn't help much. If it wasn't for the Crown Prince has passed away, Second Royal Brother is under house arrest, I luckily became the oldest son who is naturally favored by many ministers, only then could pressure down six Royal Brother.
Three Royal Brother laughed happily, in a good mood, decided to go see how Sixth Royal Brother's eye injury was.
A royal son injured his eyes definitely couldn't be emperor, ministers wouldn't support him.
After leaving the tent, Three Royal Brother put away the smile on his face, making an anxious expression.
No matter how he and six Royal Brother were in private, the surface work still had to be done well, pretend to pretend brotherly affection deep.
This point Three Royal Brother was very clear.
Three Royal Brother went to the tent where Sixth Royal Brother was placed, personally saw Sixth Royal Brother one eye gone, almost laughed out loud on the spot.
He ruthlessly pinched his own thigh, barely restrained his laughter, put on a worried look and asked the doctors in the tent about Sixth Royal Brother's eyes, still can be treated or not.
There were quite a few doctors in the tent, all sent by Old Emperor to treat Sixth Royal Brother.
Six Royal Brother this time was injured not only in his eyes, there were also many injuries on his body, when carried back he had already fainted, didn't see Three Royal Brother.
If he was awake, saw Three Royal Brother this fake act, he would probably scold until furious.
They have been living and dying together for decades, who doesn't know who they are?
Fortunately, he is now unconscious, no need to be gas until, otherwise with his current body condition, it's another question whether he could bear it or not.
Three Royal Brother carefully inquired about sixth royal brother's situation, knowing that his eye couldn't be treated, finally relieved.
He put on a concerned look, ordered the doctors to definitely treat well, heart happy went out.
Then Three Royal Brother went to the main tent.
Six Royal Brother got into trouble, Father Emperor's mood definitely wasn't good, he naturally had to go to Father Emperor's place to show off a bit.
The main tent was where Old Emperor rested, the space inside the tent was very large, and the layout inside was also very luxurious, not inferior to the palace.
Just entering the main tent, Three Royal Brother discovered that there were quite a few ministers in the royal tent, even Seventh Royal Brother was there.
Seeing seventh royal brother, he narrowed his eyes slightly, instantly on guard.
Why is Old seven here?
Three Royal Brother's mind turned quickly, could it be that right after an old six, old seven wanted to come out?
Until he saw Old Emperor actually ordered Seventh Royal Brother to go count this autumn hunt's hunting spoils, Three Royal Brother finally understood, turns out there was still an Old Seven fighting with him.
Seven Royal Brother left the main tent.
Seeing Three Royal Brother's expression, a sneer flashed in his eyes.
Just walked out of the royal tent, Seventh Royal Brother saw 傅闻宵 coming towards him from afar, their gazes met, then each went their own way, without any exchange.
傅闻宵 went to the main tent to report back to Old Emperor, and then left camp, back to the row palace side to rest.
Returning to the row palace, it was already dark.
Vile had been waiting in the room for a long time, and had even let the kitchen that side prepare dinner.
Vile got up to welcome out, looked at him, found that although two days one night without rest, this person didn't seem tired, even the blood vessels in his eyes were not many, refined and handsome, only the clothes on his body with some grass dregs and mud stains let people know, he had been running around outside for a long time.
Seeing him, he smiled on his face, stretched out his hand to hug her.
"离娘,我回来啦."
Vile returned the embrace once, said one word of tiredness, then let him go first wash up, at the same time asked if he was hungry, "The kitchen that side has already prepared food for you to eat."
This day and night, he was definitely no time to eat in the mountain forest, ate dry rations that were prepared in advance.
傅闻宵 was really hungry, and his body had been without food for a long time, so his stomach was starving.
The kitchen that side made a table full of dishes, all of which were eaten by the two of them cleanly.
After eating, the two sat by the window drinking tea and chatting.
傅闻宵 told her about Sixth Royal Brother's situation, "......at that time, he was discovered in a hidden ravine, injured all over, the others were still good, but one eye was stabbed with a tree branch, can't see again later..."
That tree branch was directly stabbed into the eyeball, completely unable to treat.
Vile was stunned for a moment, said: "Still alive, quite good."
Although listening seemed a bit harsh, but able to pick up one life, also considered lucky.
And he is a royal son, Old Emperor will definitely not treat him badly, in the future whoever becomes the new emperor, will also definitely willing to give grace to an invalid, towards the world show their tolerance.
傅闻宵 was not surprised by what she said, he held the tea cup, smiled at her, his eyes black and shiny like a piece of obsidian, immersed with soft light.
In her heart, life is precious, in front of life and death there are no big matters.
Able to live is already good fortune, other things are not too concerned about it, just like the sixth royal brother who picked up his life.
Of course, perhaps for Sixth Royal Brother, one eye was injured, no chance to fight for the throne, for him this is a huge blow, only afraid that in the future he will be dejected and depressed.
This is also what the Prince of Yue wanted.
傅闻宵 didn't say much about sixth royal brother's matter, turned to say: "Tonight rest one night in the row palace, tomorrow we will return."
Autumn hunt was only five days, today happened to be the fifth day.
Also because of these things happening, no one cared about the autumn hunt anymore, all eager to go back.
Moreover, Sixth Royal Brother was gone, there was also an Old Seven fighting with him.
Vile didn't care about the autumn hunt.
She heard that Seventh Royal Brother had already counted this autumn hunt's hunting spoils at camp, and sent the top ten's names up to Old Emperor's place, for Old Emperor to reward.
"Seven Royal Brother?" She was quite surprised, "Old Emperor started letting him do things now?"
Before, seventh royal brother was just a transparent person, silently following those royal sons, it was hard to pay attention to him. This time old emperor suddenly let him come out and show off, obviously wanted him to shine.
Vile felt that sixth royal brother went down, there was still an Old Seven fighting with him.
**
This year's autumn hunt ended in a hurry.
On the way back, everyone was very silent, their moods were not good either, and they didn't dare to show too much joy.
Especially Old Emperor, he originally wanted to use this trip to the row palace to disperse his heart for half a month before returning. Who knew that these things would happen, let him lose all desire to stay in the row palace longer, chose to return early.
Old Emperor's bad mood also affected those below, everyone was trembling with fear, and the ministers were too afraid to go see Old Emperor.
Fortunately, old emperor also didn't like to find them, usually only summoned傅闻宵 or宣怀卿 to accompany him, even when old emperor was furious in a fit of rage at other times, there was still only傅闻宵 dared to go coax old emperor, let old emperor calm down.
Old Emperor most of the time could be coaxed by him, letting those ministers avoid being punished by the angry imperial anger.
The ministers were extremely grateful to Rhyolite Prince, not without a feeling of regret, Rhyolite Prince was so excellent, why wasn't he a royal son?
But if Rhyolite Prince was a royal son, only afraid that like the former Crown Prince, would also have no good ending.
When it was about to reach the capital city, Old Emperor suddenly decided to go to the imperial temple's普源寺 stay for some time.
He felt that recently his fortune was not very good, otherwise how could so many things happen during this autumn hunt? Prepared to let普源寺's law master do a ceremony to remove bad luck.
Although there is a national master in the capital city, but Old Emperor also trusted普源寺's virtuous high monk very much.
Three Royal Brother and Seventh Royal Brother had to accompany royal father, went with to the temple.
傅闻宵 was still summoned by Old Emperor to accompany him, there was also the head of the imperial guard宣怀卿 who had to protect, also followed along, together with some princes and ministers, a group of people headed towards 普源寺.
The others were all sent back to the capital city first.
Sixth Royal Brother who got injured was sent back to the capital city to rest and recover.
Vile was also one of those returning to the capital city.
第250章 Chapter 250
Here is the rewritten chapter 250 in English:
The Emperor had a stroke.
Upon receiving this news, Empress Dowager Long was somewhat incredulous, what's going on? How could it be?
The person who delivered the message hesitated for a moment. "During the ceremony at普源寺, there was a...assassin, who injured His Majesty and shocked him, so he had a stroke."
Empress Dowager Long saw through the hesitation on that person's face, fearing the situation wasn't this simple.
She turned her head to look at her daughter-in-law sitting beside her, seeing her with an inquisitive expression.
It was clear she understood.
The Emperor had been doing well all along, how could he suddenly get sick?
Empress Dowager Long knew the truth.
She turned back and said to her daughter-in-law: "No need to conceal it, speak freely."
Since the Emperor's conduct was known by everyone, even if her daughter-in-law knew about it, there would be no problem. They were all family, family matters were not considered exposing shame to outsiders.
Having received Empress Dowager Long's permission, that person delivering the message no longer held back and said everything directly.
The truth was, the Emperor's stroke wasn't simple at all.
After arriving at普源寺, the Emperor initially attended the ceremony with the high monk of普源 Temple in a serious manner. After a few days, he became impatient and ordered those ministers and princes to continue fasting in the temple while he left with his men for 普法寺 nearby. Coincidentally, they encountered a beautiful woman in distress, and the Emperor saved her.
The Emperor was extremely fond of that beautiful woman. Every day, he went down to the village house near普法 Temple mountain to meet her, where the two of them were intimate with each other. The Emperor even said that after finishing the ceremony, he would take her back to the palace.
However, the beautiful woman had sinister intentions and took advantage of being in bed with the Emperor to injure him.
Fortunately, the guards outside noticed something was wrong and rushed in to save the Emperor. Although the Emperor's injury wasn't serious, because he suffered a huge shock, he ended up having a stroke.
Empress Dowager Long couldn't say anything when she heard this much.
Even if she had known about the Emperor's nature beforehand, she didn't expect him to do such a thing. As an emperor, he actually put himself in danger, and it would be embarrassing if others knew about it.
What assassin, it was clearly because he lustfully chased after that girl that he got into this mess, sending himself up on a plate, that woman didn't stab him dead also thanks to Buddha's blessings.
Empress Dowager Long knew that beautiful woman must be arranged by someone else.
But the Emperor falling for it, she wasn't very surprised.
Since the day he became the supreme ruler, he had always felt there was no one who could threaten his authority. Over time, he became more and more arrogant and reckless. Perhaps because he saw so many concubines in the palace flatter him and agree with him, he thought all women were like that.
When encountering a beautiful woman in distress, he didn't even suspect she had other intentions. Instead, he felt that woman was captivated by his heroic might.
Actually, the Emperor looked down on women from the bottom of his heart.
Years ago when Empress Dowager and Empress Dowager Long were powerful, they still became his defeated opponents in the end, one died early while the other was dying soon. In his eyes, women were just objects, if he liked them, he would play around with them, anything else didn't matter to him.
It was precisely because of this attitude that he fell into a woman's trap.
Empress Dowager Long pondered for a moment, realizing the person who arranged that woman must be very familiar with the Emperor's character.
After knowing the cause of the incident, Empress Dowager Long told Vile: "Leave first, in a while someone from the palace will summon you."
Vile blinked her eyes and understood.
Sure enough, she hadn't returned to the mansion for long when a eunuch came from the palace, saying the Emperor wanted to see her.
Vile had people help her dress up and get into the carriage before heading to the palace.
When she arrived at the palace, there were already some eunuchs waiting there. Seeing her, they hurriedly stepped forward and said: "Princess Consort, you've come, quickly follow this slave to see His Majesty."
Vile took advantage of this opportunity to ask: "How is His Majesty's body?"
The eunuch was cautious and only responded with a vague "okay" before closing his mouth tightly, not daring to say more.
Following the eunuch, Vile arrived at 养心殿.
There were already many people waiting outside Permitted Heart Hall, including the third prince and seventh prince.
They had all heard the news and specially came to visit the Emperor, fearful that something might happen to him. However, since no one was called in by the Emperor inside, they could only wait outside anxiously.
Especially the Emperor who went out hunting when he got lost, then encountered the sixth prince and seventh prince at West Mountain, it was hard not to feel angry about that matter.
The third prince's face was twisted with an ugly expression, his temples throbbing.
He didn't understand how this could happen, why would the Emperor summon a woman now? Even if Princess Consort Vile was an extraordinary person, what could she do for the Emperor's body or stabilize the situation in the court?
The third prince felt that the Emperor was getting more and more senile, no wonder he would be tricked by a woman...
However, seven princes were still standing in the crowd, as silent as ever.
He looked over at the third prince, seeing him with an ugly expression filled with confusion and anger. He couldn't help but feel scornful in his eyes.
It was obvious that the Emperor didn't even understand what he wanted most, no wonder he would be played by others.
-
Entering Permitted Heart Hall, Vile discovered there were quite a few people inside, besides those doctors, even the National Master was there.
The National Master sat not far from the Dragon Bed, white-haired and white-robed, looking like an otherworldly person who had detached himself from worldly affairs.
Seeing the National Master, Vile finally understood why the Emperor summoned her to the palace, and couldn't help but feel amused. She even thought that if the National Master dared to provoke her, she would directly expose his true identity.
At that time, it was unknown whether the Emperor would be angry half to death.

The Emperor lay on the bed, with doctors gathered around him, apparently giving him treatment.
Seeing Vile, Yushu stepped forward and bowed slightly to the side. "Princess Consort, you've come."
The Emperor heard this and said in a broken voice: "Let her...come over..."
Yushu looked at Vile, gesturing for her to come.
Vile walked slowly over, and as soon as she arrived by the bed, she saw the Emperor lying there. He seemed to have aged quite a bit again, his face sallow yellow and covered with wrinkles, his hair completely white like an old man who had lost his vigor.
"Good...good..."
He stared at Vile, wanting to say something but not able to speak clearly. Instead, drool dripped down from the corner of his mouth, which was quite unsightly and nowhere near having the dignity of a Son of Heaven.
The doctors pretended not to see the Emperor's unsightly state.
Yushu also couldn't bear to watch.
Vile stood there and asked on her own initiative: "Uncle, are you okay?"
The Emperor seemed to have realized his own embarrassment. His eyes flashed with intense unwillingness, as well as some hope.
He stared at Vile for a long time, but in the end said nothing. He closed his eyes and allowed the doctors to perform acupuncture on him.
Seeing this, Yushu kindly suggested: "Princess Consort, please take a seat first."
Since the Emperor hadn't spoken, it wasn't appropriate for Princess Consort Vile to leave, but it also wasn't good to make her stand in front of the bed.
Vile agreed with a sound and found a place to sit down.
Now everyone was surrounding the Emperor, so naturally no one brought anything for her to eat. She could only boredly stare at the side where the National Master was, noticing that his injuries were already healed well, at least nothing seemed amiss on the surface.
The National Master looked like he was deep in meditation, motionless and serene as if he had attained enlightenment. Someone who didn't know better would easily be deceived by his appearance.
Feeling Vile's gaze, the National Master casually glanced over, their eyes met for a moment.
For some unknown reason, when their gazes locked, the National Master suddenly felt an inexplicable panic in his heart, as if he had encountered his natural enemy. He wanted to escape but couldn't help but tremble.
The National Master knew that this Princess Consort was someone with real abilities, and if they were to fight, it would definitely be him who ended up losing.
So the National Master had been avoiding meeting Princess Consort Vile all along, but unexpectedly today, when summoned by the Emperor in a hurry, he encountered her at Permitted Heart Hall.
The National Master prayed silently, hoping the Emperor wouldn't give him any trouble later on.
-
After the doctors finished performing acupuncture, the Emperor's condition improved a lot. He could speak more fluently and his speech was no longer slurred.
He called for the National Master, saying: "National Master...my elixir of immortality...when will it be ready?"
The National Master's scalp tingled, especially feeling that gaze from behind, not daring to say anything.
But since the Emperor was staring at him intently, waiting for his response, he could only force himself to speak.
"Your Majesty, you know...one ingredient is still missing, we need more time."
"How...long?"
The National Master hesitated for a moment.
He originally wanted to say half a year, but seeing the Emperor's face, he didn't dare say it would take too long. He could only try to stall for one month at most.
"About a month."
The Emperor frowned slightly and thought for a while before reluctantly agreeing.
He trusted the National Master greatly and had never doubted his words. When he was younger, he used the National Master as a test against Empress Dowager, which brought him quite some benefits later on. After Empress Dowager died, it was another confirmation of the National Master's abilities.
The Emperor believed that the National Master would make him immortal.
After the National Master left, Vile found out what was going on.

[Chapter Body]
"Prince You! What are you doing here?" Vile shouted angrily as she saw him lurking outside her temple door.
"I…I just wanted to see how you were," Prince You stammered nervously, looking at the ground.
Vile glared at him coldly. "You need to leave right now before someone sees us together!"
"But I miss you so much Vile! Please let me stay with you..." Prince You begged pathetically, reaching out for her hand.
"NO!" She slapped his hand away harshly. "This is not the time or place!"
Just then they heard footsteps approaching quickly from inside the temple. It was the Empress Dowager herself!
Vile immediately grabbed Prince You's arm and dragged him behind some nearby bushes just as the Empress came out of her room.
The Empress paused for a moment, looking around suspiciously before heading off towards the palace.
Vile let out a sigh of relief once she confirmed that the coast was clear. "We must go now!" She hissed urgently at Prince You, grabbing his hand tightly as they sprinted off into the night.

第252章 Chapter 252
Chapter 252: The Prince of Yue rushed to the imperial temple, furiously demanding to see Vile. However, the abbot refused, stating that it was against the rules for a woman to meet with her husband while she is living in the temple as a nun. The Prince of Yue threatened to kill him if he didn't let Vile out right now. But the abbot stood firm and eventually won this battle of wits, forcing the prince to leave empty-handed. When the Prince of Yue returned home, he sent a message to Vile saying that he would be waiting for her at their old hiding place in West Mountain until midnight tomorrow night.
Vile received his letter late at night while she was praying in front of Buddha statue inside temple's main hall...
第253章 Chapter 253
Vile receives his letter late that evening while praying inside the temple's main hall. She is torn between her vows of chastity as a nun and her lingering feelings for Rhyolite, but ultimately decides it would be improper to meet him alone again. Instead, she writes back declining his invitation but offering to pray for his safe return home instead.
The Prince of Yue receives Vile's reply the next morning and is filled with rage at her refusal. He storms off to the imperial palace in a fury, confronting the Emperor about Vile's presence there as an uninvited guest. The Emperor scolds him harshly for questioning the temple's rules before sending him back home.
Rhyolite returns home in a foul mood after his confrontation with the Emperor. He storms into his room and begins destroying everything in sight - vases, chairs, tables - venting all his rage on innocent objects around him...

第254章 Chapter 254
Three Royal Brother came out of the Imperial Palace, his face was not very good.
The people who saw this scene were all secretly speculating, wondering if the Emperor had fallen ill? But there was no news coming out from the palace, should be alright though.
Three Royal Brother returned to his manor, he flew into a rage again.
He was angry of course at the Emperor's attitude. That damn old man, even though he was already bedridden with stroke, still guarding against them, the princes, rather than letting him die, allowing Princess An to rule and crush them down.
Three Royal Brother gritted his teeth in anger, today he went to the palace, it was to ask for advice from the Emperor, like if possible to agree on making him Crown Prince, give him a proper identity that would allow him to fight against Princess An.
Otherwise he really couldn't fight against this aunt.
But after venting all his anger at the Emperor who wouldn't die, Three Royal Brother hated Princess An again. Why did an about-to-die person suddenly recover?
He said in disgust: "If I knew back then when she was residing in the imperial hunting lodge, I should have just killed her to prevent further trouble."
An imperial princess confined in a hunting lodge would be easy to kill.
At that time he thought Princess An was already a useless person, not worth worrying about. His attention was more on court politics and fighting with those brothers.
Who would've expected, an on-the-verge-of-death princess could return to the court and her body looked completely fine, making people suspect whether she was faking illness back then.
"Shouldn't be." The advisor said, "The Emperor sent over many imperial physicians back then, every single one of them said Princess An had a severe illness, no cure."
Even if Princess An could bribe a few imperial physicians, it's not possible to have all the imperial physicians bribed right?
Princess An definitely didn't have this much ability.
Three Royal Brother frowned.
Actually he also knew that Princess An was indeed ill back then, even if she didn't want to be, the Emperor would make her sick.
Back when Princess An was that ill, she had been imprisoned in the hunting lodge for a few years. It was said she always bedridden, sometimes good and sometimes bad. Later he accidentally learned from his mother, turns out Princess An's medicine was secretly given poison opposite of the medicine every year, even if it was a good medicine would become toxic, continuously corroding her body, probably wouldn't live more than a few years.
The one who could do this kind of thing secretly, only that person in the palace.
Three Royal Brother still felt something wasn't right. "You guys say, how did Princess An's illness suddenly recover? And looking like she even got younger, won't it be some immortal elixir or something?"
Under the Emperor's influence, Three Royal Brother had an inexplicable trust towards medicine pills.
If not for fear of upsetting the Emperor's eyes, he would've gone to the National Teacher to seek some immortality elixirs.
Fortunately the advisor didn't know his thoughts, otherwise they'd definitely suspect if following him was a mistake.
The advisor hesitated and said: "Prince, this matter should be related to Duke Heng."
"Huh?" Three Royal Brother first was confused, then understood. "Could it be Princess An is being treated by that physician from the south lands?"
He heard that Duke Heng's son was saved by Physician Li back then.
Back when he was young, Duke Heng's wife gave him poison, that was a secret imperial palace drug from the previous dynasty. It's said to be extremely toxic with no cure.
Everyone thought Duke Heng would definitely die. Only if the Emperor still remembered their old relationship and allowed Duke Heng's manor people to take him south seeking medicine could he possibly survive.
Even so, when Duke Heng was leaving for the south back then there were still quite a few people secretly sending assassins after him. Fortunately they were all resolved by those protecting Duke Heng's manor, letting him safely go south.
Anyway, it was just someone who wouldn't live long, Three Royal Brother later on also didn't pay attention.
Who would've expected that he could actually recover well and return alive, same as Princess An who suddenly appeared out of nowhere, both mother and son recovered to health.
Three Royal Brother regretted a million times. He should have killed Duke Heng back then too, just one mistake let this pair of mother and son survive.
The advisor said firmly: "This servant thinks it's possible, that Physician Li must be a divine physician."
A divine physician like that could naturally save Duke Heng and Princess An too.
Three Royal Brother's heart was filled with anger. Could it be back then when he let people bring Physician Li to the capital, he actually helped out Princess An instead?
Even his son's legs weren't treated by Physician Li, but he went to save Princess An instead, truly ungrateful.
Three Royal Brother hated heaven and earth, hating everyone. Recently all his people were being suppressed by Princess An one after another, her steps constantly squeezing him.
He was most worried that if the Emperor left one day, Princess An would look for a good puppet emperor to succeed, then castrate them all those royal sons.
With Princess An's ruthless methods, it was absolutely possible.
The advisor waited until his anger subsided somewhat before saying: "Prince, right now the best thing is for you to guard against Princess An. Absolutely cannot let anything happen to His Majesty, at the same time you should also find a few allies."
"Find who? Find the 7th Prince?" Three Royal Brother had a disdainful look on his face.
He never put Seven Prince in his eyes, even though after Sixth Prince's affair the Emperor specially pulled out Seven Prince to fight with him. Though he was angry back then he still didn't care about Seven Prince this person.
"Prince, you can find Prince Yi and Prince Yue." The advisor said lowly, "Prince Yi and Prince Yue both have real power, moreover they are imperial clan, they will naturally stand on your side."
As men, surely Prince Yi and Prince Yue also didn't want a woman stepping over them right?
Actually the imperial clan also didn't want Princess An to take position. Unfortunately the imperial clan couldn't suppress her.
Three Royal Brother nodded, he of course understood this logic. Then he asked: "What about General Zhao?"
He had sent someone to curry favor with Prince Zhao before, before Prince Zhao ignored him, now that the Emperor was even bedridden, if Prince Zhao was smart then he would know what to do.
The advisor helplessly said: "General Zhao didn't receive our gifts, he is His Majesty's recommended general. He has to be loyal to His Majesty, it won't be easy to curry favor with him."
Those like General Zhao who had this kind of heart state could also be understood.
He was loyal to the Emperor, wouldn't accept anyone's curry favor, his temperament was quite stubborn and pure.
Three Royal Brother frowned for a moment then quickly didn't care. He knew that Prince Zhao only returned to the capital not long ago, when His Majesty truly had something happen one day he also couldn't help much.
The General who guarded the imperial city would be needed though.
After discussing with his advisors, Three Royal Brother soon thought of an idea and prepared to first test Prince Yi's attitude.

Princess An just returned from outside, she heard Three Royal Brother came.
She was a bit confused, not liking him so didn't go see him.
After Three Royal Brother left, she went to the front courtyard study room. She found several half-brothers were there too, father and son a few people seemed like they were discussing something, as if excluding her.
Princess An saw herself come over they all stopped talking, like preventing her. She couldn't help but coldly smile.
"Old 7th?" Princess An also didn't go to him.
He had some weird feeling, for he didn't like Three Royal Brother so didn't go see him either.
