Chapter 65:

The next day, Vulture woke up before dawn. He felt refreshed and his injuries seemed to have healed overnight. The county governor's wife had left him some clothes and shoes, which fit quite well.

Vulture got dressed and went out for a walk around the village. He saw the sun beginning to rise in the east, painting the sky with hues of orange and pink. The air was crisp and clean, and he could hear birds chirping in the distance.

As he walked through the village, Vulture passed by several homes where people were starting their day. Some women were sweeping the front steps while children played nearby. An old man sat outside his door, smoking a pipe and looking at Vulture with curiosity.

Vulture nodded at him and continued on his way. He had no destination in mind, just wanting to stretch his legs after being confined to bed for days. The village was quiet and peaceful this early in the morning.

Soon he came across a large pond surrounded by weeping willows. It looked tranquil and inviting. Vulture decided to take a break there. He sat down on the grassy bank and watched the sun slowly rise above the trees, reflecting off the still water's surface.

As he sat enjoying the serene beauty of nature, Vulture's thoughts turned to his current situation. Being rescued by the county governor's wife was certainly unexpected. What were her motives? Was she just a kind-hearted woman or did she have some ulterior purpose?

Vulture knew he needed to be careful until he figured out her true intentions. The world could be dangerous, especially for someone like him with no family or connections. He had learned that lesson many times before.

But for the time being, Vulture simply wanted to enjoy this moment of peace and tranquility. He closed his eyes and listened to the gentle sounds around him - birds singing, leaves rustling in the breeze, water lapping softly against the shore.

When he opened his eyes again, Vulture saw a young girl walking along the path by the pond. She was dressed in simple clothes and carried a basket on her back. As she drew closer, he realized it was the county governor's daughter, Li Wei.

"Good morning," Li Wei said politely as she approached him. "I didn't expect to see you awake so early."

Vulture nodded at her. "Good morning. I woke up feeling much better, so decided to take a walk and enjoy the beauty of this place."

Li Wei smiled. "It is lovely here, isn't it? My father often brings me here when I was little. He used to tell me stories as we watched the sunset together."

Vulture glanced at her basket. "What are you doing out so early?"

"I'm going to gather some herbs and mushrooms for my mother's kitchen," Li Wei replied. "She likes to make soups with them."

"Ah, I see." Vulture turned his gaze back to the pond. "Well, don't let me keep you from your tasks. Enjoy your morning."

Li Wei nodded and continued on her way along the path, humming a soft tune as she went.

Vulture watched her leave before turning his attention back to the rising sun. He sat there for some time longer, just enjoying the peaceful surroundings without thinking too much about anything else.

Eventually he headed back towards the county governor's mansion, deciding it was best not to wander around unaccompanied when he didn't know who might be lurking nearby.

Upon his return, Vulture saw that breakfast had already been prepared for him in the guest room. The county governor's wife greeted him warmly and asked how he slept. Vulture assured her he felt much better after a good night's rest.

Over breakfast, she mentioned that her husband would be returning later today from a business trip. Vulture said he looked forward to meeting him.

The day passed uneventfully as Vulture recovered from his injuries. He spent time reading books provided by the county governor's wife and resting in his room when he felt tired.

In the evening, the county governor returned home. He came to greet Vulture warmly, thanking him again for saving his wife's life. Vulture thanked him in return for allowing him to stay under their roof during his recovery.

The county governor invited Vulture to dine with them that night as a gesture of goodwill. Vulture accepted and they enjoyed an amiable meal together before retiring for the evening.

As he lay in bed that night, Vuture reflected on how much his life had changed since being rescued by the county governor's wife. He wondered what the future held now that he was under their protection.

But for the time being, Vulture decided to focus on recovering from his injuries and enjoying this newfound peace and security in his life. The world outside could wait until he felt stronger again.

Chapter 66:

"您可真会开玩笑!" Vulture chuckled, shaking his head. "I'm not planning on taking any wives, at least not for the time being."

The county governor smiled knowingly. "Ah, I see! Well, if you ever change your mind, just let me know. I have a few eligible daughters..."

Vulture quickly changed the subject. "So tell me, how did you and your wife meet?"

"Oh, that's an interesting story..." The county governor began to recount.

Over the next hour or so, they chatted about various topics - family, work, hobbies. Vulture found himself enjoying their conversation immensely; it was rare for him to have such stimulating discussions with anyone else these days.

As evening fell and dinner was served in the courtyard outside, Vulture felt a sense of contentment wash over him as he sat there talking with his hosts under the stars. For someone who had lived most of his life alone and on the move, this feeling was foreign but not unwelcome.

After dinner they retired to their respective rooms for the night; Vulture slept deeply and dreamlessly until morning light filtered through the curtains once more.

He woke up feeling refreshed after a good night's rest. Stretching out on the bed, he listened to birds chirping outside his window before getting up to start preparing for another day in town.

As he walked down the street towards their usual meeting spot by the pond where they had first met yesterday morning, Vulture felt lighter than ever before - as if all his worries from last night were gone with dawn's arrival.

When he arrived at the pond, he saw Li Wei already waiting there on a bench nearby. She smiled brightly when she spotted him approaching and waved cheerily in greeting.

"Good morning!" Li Wei said warmly as Vulture joined her on the bench beside her own. "I hope you slept well?"

Vulture nodded with a smile. "Yes, thank you for asking. Your father's hospitality is truly unparalleled."

Li Wei laughed lightly at that before quickly changing topics herself: "So I was wondering... Would you like to go somewhere together today? There are some sights in town worth seeing if you haven't explored much yet!"

Vulture thought about it briefly before agreeing enthusiastically; he had nothing else planned for today anyhow, and spending more time with Li Wei sounded quite appealing indeed!

Soon enough they were strolling along one of the busier streets in town together - Li Wei pointing out various landmarks while Vulture listened attentively. It felt strange being here without having to constantly watch his back or worry about someone recognizing him from before...

As they walked further down this street, Li Wei suddenly stopped short right in front of a small shop selling musical instruments. Pointing inside excitedly she exclaimed: "Look! Isn't that beautiful?"

Following her gaze, Vulture saw several finely crafted zithers hanging on display behind the counter along with other stringed instruments like lutes and harps...

Vulture couldn't help but feel a pang of nostalgia wash over him; these instruments reminded him so much of his childhood back home before everything went wrong. He used to play the zither often until he was forced to flee...

Seeing how captivated Vulture seemed by the sight inside, Li Wei suggested: "Why don’t we go in and take a closer look?"

Vulture hesitated for just a moment before nodding; why not? It had been too long since he allowed himself such simple pleasures as this.

They entered the shop together - Li Wei greeting the owner cheerily while Vulture browsed through their collection of instruments with keen interest.

The owner soon handed them each an instrument to try out: a zither for Vulture and a lute for Li Wei. They sat down on stools provided, then began playing softly...

Vulture lost himself in the music immediately; it felt so familiar yet foreign all at once - like reconnecting with part of his past that he had long forgotten about but never truly let go.

When they finished playing after some time, the owner clapped enthusiastically. "Bravo! You two play beautifully together!"

Li Wei smiled shyly while Vulture thanked him humbly; they returned their instruments back to him before exiting the shop once more.

As they walked down the street again, Li Wei asked curiously: "So what do you think? Do you want one?"

Vulture hesitated for a moment before responding honestly. "I don't know if I should..."

"Why not?" Li Wei asked puzzledly. "You play beautifully!"

"Well..." Vulture began slowly, trying to find the right words; how could he explain this without revealing too much about his past? "...It reminds me of home."

Li Wei nodded understandingly; she hadn't expected him to just openly share everything with her after knowing each other for only two days. Instead she suggested kindly: "Then maybe it's time you started making new memories here instead?"

Vulture looked at Li Wei thoughtfully before replying softly: "You're right..."

Chapter 67

The county governor's mansion was peaceful and quiet, with only the occasional servant passing by. Vulture sat alone in his room, looking out the window at the lush gardens outside.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. "Sir?" came a timid voice from outside. It was one of the servants. "Are you awake? The county governor would like to see you downstairs."

Vulture nodded and got up from the bed. He walked out of his room and made his way down to the main hall.

There, he saw the county governor sitting at the table with his wife. They were drinking tea together. "Ah, Vulture! There you are," said the county governor warmly when he noticed Vulture's arrival. "Come sit with us."

Vulture bowed respectfully and joined them at the table. The three of them chatted amiably over tea for a while before the conversation turned to more serious matters.

"You have been staying in our mansion for several days now," said the county governor, looking at Vulture sternly. "We are glad you chose to stay with us, but we must ask - what is your plan? You cannot keep living here indefinitely."

Vulture felt a twinge of guilt in his chest. He had not thought about this before; he was so focused on recovering that he did not consider how long he could remain as a guest.

"I...I do not know," said Vulture slowly, choosing his words carefully. "To be honest, I have no family or home to return to at the moment. But I can assure you both that I will not overstay my welcome here."

The county governor nodded approvingly and changed the subject again.

After a while longer, they all finished their tea and retired for the night. Vulture headed back up to his room alone, deep in thought about what he should do next...

Over the following week or so, Vulture slowly recovered from his injuries. He spent most of his days walking around town or taking walks by himself along quiet streets lined with trees.

One day while out strolling through town again, Vulture came across a small shop selling musical instruments. As he stood outside looking at some finely crafted zithers displayed in the window, his mind drifted back to memories from when he was younger - before everything went wrong...

"Is there anything I can help you with?" asked an elderly man who had just walked out from inside the store.

Vulture snapped out of his reverie and turned to face him. "Oh no, thank you. Just admiring these beautiful instruments."

The old man smiled warmly at Vulture before going back into his shop.

Over time, Vulture grew more comfortable living in this new place under the county governor's protection. He spent a lot of his days alone but enjoyed the peace and quietness that came with staying here.

As for Li Wei... well, she eventually stopped coming over as often since they both knew each other better now. She still dropped by occasionally when she was out running errands nearby though!

One evening after dinner one night at the mansion's courtyard under the stars (which had become their usual spot to eat), Vulture felt contentment wash over him as he sat there talking with his hosts under the stars. For someone who had lived most of his life alone and on the move, this feeling was foreign but not unwelcome.

The next morning when Vulture woke up feeling refreshed from a good night's rest, he decided it was time for him to leave. He had been living here too long already without contributing anything meaningful in return.

He packed his bags quietly before heading out early in the morning while most people were still sleeping; leaving behind only a short note thanking them profusely for their hospitality over these past few weeks...

OVERALL THOUGHTS:

This chapter does an excellent job of showing how Vulture has been settling into his new life under the county governor's protection. It shows him becoming more comfortable and content as each day passes by, which is a big change from what he was like before when he lived alone most of his life on the move.

The description of Vulture sitting in the courtyard outside under the stars with his hosts really sets the mood for how peaceful things have been lately. The county governor's mansion provides him with safety and security that allows him to relax without fear or worry about being attacked again by those thieves or bandits out there somewhere...

The relationship between Li Wei and Vulture also develops nicely in this chapter; even though they don't see each other as often anymore, their friendship still remains strong. Their interaction at the musical instrument shop is particularly poignant because it brings up painful memories from Vuture's past but also allows him to start making new positive associations with music again.

Overall, this chapter effectively showcases how much Vuture's life has changed for the better thanks to his time spent under the county governor's protection. It sets up well for future developments in their relationship as well as potential conflicts that may arise down the road...

It was the day before the Moon Festival, and the county city was lively with activity. Vulture woke up in his room at the governor's mansion, having spent a week recovering from his injuries. He had fallen asleep early last night after dinner.

Chapter 69: The Deranged Woman

The county governor's mansion is quiet. Vulture is alone in the courtyard, sitting on a bench under the moonlight. He looks around at the peaceful gardens and feels a sense of tranquility wash over him.

Suddenly, there are footsteps coming from inside the house. Vulture turns to see Li Wei emerging with a tray of tea things. She walks over and sits beside him on the bench.

"Vulture, what are you doing out here so late?" she asks gently.

"I couldn't sleep," he replies simply. "I was thinking about my past."

Li Wei nods in understanding. "You've been through a lot, haven't you? The life of an assassin isn't easy."

Vulture lets out a wry chuckle. "No, it's not. But I wouldn't trade it for the world." He pauses and looks at Li Wei intently. "You know, since coming here, I've felt more at peace than I have in years. Being around you all...it feels like home."

Li Wei blushes slightly at his words but holds his gaze steadily. "I'm glad we can provide that for you, Vulture. You deserve to feel safe and cared for."

They sit in comfortable silence for a moment before Li Wei speaks up again. "Have you thought about what comes next? After your injuries heal completely, I mean."

Vulture looks out at the stars. "The future is uncertain. I suppose I'll have to return to my old life eventually." His tone is tinged with reluctance.

"You don't sound very excited about that prospect," Li Wei observes gently.

"No, I'm not. I've grown accustomed to this peaceful existence here." He sighs. "But I can't stay forever. Sooner or later I'll have to face the consequences of my actions."

Li Wei reaches out and takes his hand in hers. "Vulture, you don't have to do this alone anymore. We're here for you - me, the county governor's family..." She pauses and smiles softly. "You have a home now, with us. Just remember that when the time comes to leave."

Vulture feels warmth spread through him at her words and squeezes her hand gratefully. "Thank you, Li Wei. For everything."

Chapter 70

The autumn festival arrived, and the county town was livelier than usual. From early in the morning, the guards patrolled the streets to prevent anyone from causing trouble during the holiday.

Such a special day; if anything happened and disrupted the county magistrate's celebrations, everyone would be in for it. So the guards tensed up even more than usual, willing to work extra hard rather than risk upsetting their boss on this important occasion.

For Vulture, who had been staying at the governor's mansion recovering from his injuries, today was just another ordinary day. He woke up late and went for a walk around town with Li Wei by his side.

They strolled through the lively streets together, enjoying each other's company as they watched people come and go from shops and stalls set up for the holiday celebrations. Vulture felt content being here with her; it was nice to have someone he could relax around without worrying about getting attacked again anytime soon.

As evening approached, Vulture found himself growing hungry after their long walk through town so suggested stopping somewhere nearby for dinner before heading back home later tonight when everyone else will also be eating early due to this special occasion.

On their way there though, they suddenly heard loud noises coming from further down the street - shouting voices mixed with sounds of fighting! Vulture immediately tensed up and grabbed Li Wei's arm tightly as he quickly scanned their surroundings for any signs of danger or trouble brewing nearby…

第71章 Chapter 71

Chapter 71

The county governor's mansion was quiet, save for the soft hum of cicadas outside. Vulture sat alone on a stone bench in the courtyard, his gaze fixed on the tranquil pond before him.

The last few weeks had been peaceful, almost idyllic. Recovering here under the county governor's protection allowed him a rare sense of security and comfort that he hadn't experienced since...well, since before everything went wrong.

But even now, surrounded by beauty and kindness, Vulture couldn't shake the feeling that it was all temporary. That sooner or later, his past would catch up to him again.

"Vulture? There you are."

Li Wei's voice broke through his darkening thoughts. He looked up to see her walking towards him with a tray laden with tea things and snacks.

"It is such a lovely evening," she continued, setting the tray down on the small table beside the bench. "I thought we could enjoy it together."

She sat next to him, close but not quite touching. The scent of her perfume mingled with the night air - something light and floral that made Vulture feel strangely melancholy.

"You look like you have heavy thoughts," Li Wei said gently after a moment of comfortable silence between them as they watched the fading sunlight dance across the water's surface. "What troubles you?"

Vulture hesitated, glancing at her out of the corner of his eye. She was so kind and beautiful - everything that he wasn't. What right did someone like him have to burden her with his ugly past?

"I don't want to bore you with my problems," he said finally.

"No, please." Li Wei reached out and laid a hand on his arm, her touch light but reassuring. "I'm here if you ever need someone to listen."

Vulture looked down at where her fingers rested against the fabric of his sleeve, feeling warmth spread through him despite himself. He wanted so badly to lean into her touch, to let it ground him in this moment.

But he couldn't give in to temptation; not when there was still a chance that she might turn away from him once she knew the truth.

"Maybe another time," Vulture said quietly after a long pause. "Right now...I'd rather just enjoy the peace while I can."

Li Wei smiled softly and nodded, letting her hand fall back into her lap as she turned her attention to preparing their tea instead. The two of them sat there together under the stars for what felt like hours, talking about everything and nothing at all until finally it was time for Vulture to head off to bed alone once again.

Even though he knew that tomorrow would bring new challenges and uncertainties - especially if someone from his past managed to track him down here - tonight he could pretend that everything was perfect between them forever more.

Chapter 72

The night was peaceful, with the moon casting a silvery glow over the mountains. Vulture sat in the courtyard of the governor's mansion, enjoying the tranquil beauty.

He could still remember when he first arrived here, injured and exhausted. The governor had taken him in without question, offering him shelter and protection.

Vulture reflected on how fortunate he was to have found this temporary sanctuary. In his line of work, there were no guarantees of a peaceful life for long. His past would inevitably catch up with him eventually.

"Vulture? There you are."

Li Wei's soft voice broke through his thoughts. She walked over and sat down beside him on the stone bench.

"I was hoping to find you here," she said gently. "I thought we could enjoy this lovely evening together."

Vulture looked at her, feeling a warmth spread through him despite himself. He wanted so badly to lean into her touch, but he knew he couldn't burden her with his ugly past.

"Maybe another time," Vulture said quietly after a long pause. "Right now...I'd rather just enjoy the peace while I can."

Li Wei smiled softly and nodded, letting her hand fall back into her lap as she turned to prepare their tea instead.

The two of them sat there together under the stars for what felt like hours, talking about everything and nothing at all until finally it was time for Vulture to head off to bed alone once again.

Chapter 73

"What?" Layered Big Brother was shocked by Old Chief's words.

Hearing the county chief and Goosefoot Uncle react so strongly, he quickly moved closer to look at Vulture's face.

Who got drunk?

The two immediately forgot about being wary of whether Vulture was human or not, wanting to get close and see her face clearly.

This whole journey, because they were in awe of Vulture, the two of them actually didn't dare look directly at her much.

And because of that, they hadn't noticed any changes in her.

Now, looking at this redness on her extremely pale face, it was so obvious, redder than normal.

Could she be sick?

If she got sick and could still drag two people around like this, run all over the place and even take out a whole bandit camp, that would be too amazing, right?

Of course, getting drunk and knocking out so many bandits also wasn't very normal.

In any case, only someone who was drunk would act without reason.

For example, there's no need to go through a city gate when you can climb over walls, run around having fun like this, forcing them to come along to clear out bandits...

So the two of them were sure she was drunk.

Vulture's face and body are not very healthy.

Layered Big Brother didn't know what they thought in their hearts.

She said that so easily, like it was just a small matter.

Seeing her look so calm and serious, the two of them suddenly felt cold all over.

They quickly lowered their heads, not daring to make eye contact with Vulture again.

She said that so easily, like it was just a small matter.

Seeing her look so calm and serious, the two of them suddenly felt cold all over.

They quickly lowered their heads, not daring to make eye contact with Vulture again.

"Vulture! What's up?" Layered Big Brother waved his big hand, shoving the two aside and not letting them get close.

Although they called Vulture "Big Bro" every day, Layered Big Brother still felt these two guys weren't good people, especially since Vulture was drunk now. He had to be careful.

The county chief and Goosefoot Uncle were just as worried in their hearts.

They knew the identity of this group of people wasn't simple, let alone the fact that they had been taken care of by such a great official.

What's more, Vulture was already an adult woman who had been married for some time now...

Although the county chief and Goosefoot Uncle were both over forty years old, their wives were at least ten years younger than them. They knew what kind of thing might happen between men and women.

The two of them didn't dare do anything to Vulture.

"Who are you guys?" Layered Big Brother asked sternly.

Vulture said calmly, "They're my people."

"Your people?" Layered Big Brother frowned and looked at the county chief and Goosefoot Uncle.

He had brought some of his own men with him this time to help clear out bandits, but Vulture didn't have any followers.

The county chief said quickly, "Yes yes yes, we're her people."

Goosefoot Uncle nodded repeatedly.

"Then you guys go get some rest now." Layered Big Brother waved his hand at them.

"Yes!" The two of them replied in unison and quickly ran off to find a place to hide.

Layered Big Brother watched the county chief's back disappear, then turned around to look at Vulture again.

She was still standing there calmly looking at him, her pale face glowing under the moonlight.

Vulture's eyes were bright, but she looked tired in other ways.

It must have been hard for her to drag two people all over the place...

"Vulture, are you okay? Is it because of me?" Layered Big Brother asked worriedly.

Vulture said calmly, "No."

Layered Big Brother was relieved.

The moonlight shone on Vulture's body, making her look even more beautiful than ever before.

But her beauty now only made Layered Big Brother feel a little uncomfortable inside...

"I'll go back first." Vulture turned around and walked towards the door.

"Wait a minute!" Layered Big Brother called out to her, "I still have something to say!"

Vulture stopped in her tracks and looked back at him.

The moonlight shone on her face, making it look like it was glowing.

"I... I..." Layered Big Brother stammered for a bit before finally saying what he wanted to say.

"I'm going back too."

Chapter 74

"Where did you go last night?" The county chief asked Vulture.

Vulture was sitting in the courtyard, enjoying a quiet moment before heading to bed. She looked up at him and replied calmly, "I went to clear out some bandits."

The county chief gasped. "Bandits?! Why would you do that?"

Vulture shrugged. "There were rumors of many bandits causing trouble around here. I figured it was best to deal with them before they hurt anyone else."

"But... how did you know where to find them?" The county chief asked, still looking shocked.

"I have my ways," Vulture said with a small smirk. She stood up and stretched lazily. "Anyway, enough talk about that. What do we need to prepare for the autumn festival?"

The county chief quickly changed the subject. "Oh yes, the festival! We're going to be selling lots of moon cakes and lanterns this year."

Vulture nodded. "Sounds good to me. I'm sure the townspeople will love it!"

As they walked back inside, Vulture caught sight of Layered Big Brother sitting alone in the hallway. She smiled warmly at him.

"Hey there, you want to go get some dinner with me?" Vulture asked him.

"Sure," Layered Big Brother said happily. He stood up and walked over to her.

As they ate dinner together, Vulture noticed that Layered Big Brother seemed a little distant tonight. She wondered if he was still upset about the county chief's words earlier.

After finishing their meal, Vulture decided to go out for a walk alone in the courtyard. The evening air felt cool and refreshing against her skin as she strolled slowly along the stone path lined with lanterns.

As she walked deeper into the garden, Vulture heard some rustling noises coming from behind one of the large bushes nearby. She stopped walking and listened carefully, trying to determine if it was just a harmless animal or something more sinister lurking in the darkness.

Vulture stepped closer towards the bush when suddenly, someone grabbed her arm tightly! Before she could react, they pulled her off balance and tackled her roughly onto the ground!

"Ow!" Vulture yelped as her back hit hard against the grassy lawn. She tried to sit up but found herself pinned down by a heavy weight pressing on top of her chest.

"Who are you? What do you want?" A gruff male voice demanded angrily above her head.

Vulture looked up into the face of an older man with messy gray hair and beady little eyes glaring furiously at her. "Get off me!" She struggled to push him away but found she couldn't budge him an inch; he must have been incredibly strong!

The old man pressed his knee roughly against Vulture's throat, choking off any further cries for help as he leaned down closer until their noses almost touched.

"You're that damn girl who killed my son, aren't you?!" The old man snarled viciously at her. "I know it was you! You won't get away with this!"

Vulture finally managed to croak out a single word: "Who?"

"Who?" The old man laughed bitterly. "Don't play dumb with me girlie, I ain't fooled by your pretty face and innocent act! I know exactly who you are!" He pressed his knee harder against her windpipe until Vulture could feel herself starting to black out from lack of oxygen.

Just when she thought she might actually die right here on the spot tonight, suddenly a shadow emerged from behind them!

"Let her go!" The voice rang clear and authoritative in the night air as someone grabbed the old man's shoulder and yanked him off Vulture's body with ease. The old man fell back onto his butt with a grunt of pain.

Vulture gasped for air as she sat up, rubbing at her sore throat. She looked over to see Layered Big Brother standing there, staring down at the fallen old man coldly.

"Who are you?" Layered Big Brother asked calmly.

The old man glared hatefully up at him but didn't reply. Vulture stood and dusted herself off before turning to leave.

"Let's go back inside," she said quietly to Layered Big Brother as they walked away, leaving the angry old man alone in the courtyard.

Back indoors, Vulture told Layered Big Brother what happened out there. He looked stunned by her story but quickly recovered himself and smiled warmly at her.

"You're okay now, right?" He asked softly.

"Yeah," Vulture nodded with a small smile back. "Thanks for saving me."

"No problem at all." Layered Big Brother said kindly. "I'm just glad I got here in time."

They chatted for a little while longer before deciding to head off to bed early since it had been such an eventful night already.

As Vulture drifted off into a deep sleep, she thought about how close she had come to dying tonight and felt grateful that Layered Big Brother had arrived when he did. She knew she couldn't let her guard down around here ever again...

Chapter 75: 10000收藏《病美人和杀猪刀》作者:雾矢翊

"Hey, Vulture! You're back early today," Layered Big Brother said as he saw her walk into the mansion. "Did you get everything done at the meat shop?"

Vulture nodded and smiled slightly. "Yeah, it was pretty easy actually. The owner gave me some extra money too."

"That's great!" Layered Big Brother replied enthusiastically before his expression turned more serious. "But listen, I have something important to tell you..."

He paused for a moment before continuing gravely.

"I just found out that those bandits who attacked us last night were actually part of the same gang that kidnapped your sister! They're after revenge now."

Vulture's eyes widened in shock and anger. She gripped her sword tightly, ready to do whatever was needed.

"Those bastards!" she growled through gritted teeth. "I'll make them regret ever messing with our family!"

Layered Big Brother placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. "Don't worry, I'm here for you no matter what happens," he assured her softly.

Vulture smiled gratefully at him before turning to go inside and change out of her bloody clothes.

As she walked through the hallway, she overheard some strange noises coming from one of the rooms...

"Who's there?" Vulture demanded loudly as she pushed open the door forcefully.

To her surprise, she saw Layered Big Brother lying on top of another woman! The two quickly tried to cover themselves with blankets but it was too late - Vulture had already seen everything!

"What are you doing?!" Vulture screamed at them angrily. "How could you betray me like this?! I trusted you!"

Layered Big Brother looked stunned and ashamed as he struggled to get up off the other woman.

"Vulture, please let me explain..." he stammered nervously but she cut him off with a harsh glare.

"You're dead to me," Vulture said coldly before storming out of the room in disgust.

Inside Layered Big Brother's mind: Shit! I thought I heard footsteps earlier, why didn't I check?! I'm so stupid!

He quickly got dressed and ran after Vulture, desperate to explain himself.

"Vulture, wait!" he called out desperately behind her back but she ignored him completely.

Her heart felt like it was being ripped apart inside her chest as she walked away from the man who had betrayed her trust so easily... How could someone she cared about this much hurt her in such a cruel way?

As Vulture continued walking aimlessly through the mansion grounds, trying to process what just happened, a guard suddenly appeared and grabbed hold of her roughly by the arm.

"Hey! Let go!" she shouted angrily at him. "What are you doing?! I'm part of this family!"

But the guard just laughed cruelly in response before dragging her off towards one of the guest rooms...

Vulture struggled against his grip but it was no use - he was too strong for her to break free from alone.

As soon as they got inside, Vulture was thrown onto a bed where she landed with a heavy thud. The guard locked the door behind them before turning around with an evil grin on his face...

"You're coming with me now," he sneered at her menacingly as he began unbuckling his pants...

Vulture knew what was about to happen next and felt sick to her stomach... She had to think fast!

"Wait!" she cried out desperately. "Don't do this! Please!"

The guard paused for a moment before laughing again mockingly.

"What, you don't want my big cock?" he taunted her.

Vulture quickly racked her brain trying to come up with something - anything - that might save her from being violated by this sick bastard...

"I-I have money!" she stammered out hopefully. "Lots of it! Just name your price!"

The guard's eyes lit up greedily at the mention of cash and he stopped unbuckling his belt.

"How much?" he asked eagerly, suddenly interested in what Vulture had to offer instead...

Vulture breathed a small sigh of relief as she realized her plan might actually work...

"More than you could ever imagine," she promised seductively. "Now please, let me go and I'll give it all to you..."

The guard considered this for a moment before nodding slowly.

"Alright then," he grunted finally. "But if you try anything funny later on...

Vulture nodded obediently in agreement as she scrambled off the bed and rushed out of the room without looking back once...

As soon as she was free, Vulture ran towards the stables where she kept her horse ready for emergencies like these.

She jumped onto its back barebacked and galloped away from the mansion as fast as possible...

***

Later that night, Vulture arrived at a small inn on the outskirts of town. She dismounted from her horse wearily before collapsing onto one of the beds inside an empty room she had booked earlier.

As she lay there panting heavily after her harrowing escape, there was a sudden knock at her door...

"Who is it?" Vulture called out warily as she grabbed her sword under the pillow beside her.

"It's me," Layered Big Brother answered softly from behind the closed door...

Vulture froze in place for several seconds before sitting up slowly against the headboard.

"I don't want to see you right now," she said quietly after taking a deep breath. "Go away."

"Please let me explain what happened earlier..." he begged through gritted teeth.

"No!" Vulture shouted angrily back at him. "I trusted you! How could you betray me like that?!"

She heard Layered Big Brother's muffled voice on the other side of the door pleading with her but she refused to listen or open up for even one second...

Eventually, his footsteps faded away down the hallway until Vulture was left alone again in her room...

Vulture lay back down and closed her eyes tightly as hot tears began streaming down her cheeks uncontrollably.

She had thought Layered Big Brother cared about her - really cared. But now she knew he was just like everyone else: selfish, greedy, and only out for himself...

Vulture vowed to herself that she would never trust anyone again ever in this world...

***

The next morning, Vulture woke up early with a pounding headache and nausea from crying so much the night before.

As soon as she stepped outside her room, she saw Layered Big Brother sitting alone at one of the tables eating breakfast quietly by himself...

Vulture quickly ducked back into hiding before he noticed her. She had no desire to see him right now or talk about what happened yesterday...

Instead, Vulture decided it was time for some fresh air and exercise. She walked out to the stable where she kept her horse tied up overnight.

As soon as her horse saw her approaching, it whinnied happily in greeting as if sensing how much stress its owner had gone through recently...

Vulture saddled up quickly before heading off towards town along an empty dirt road lined with tall trees on either side...

After a while, Vulture reached the outskirts of town where she could hear people talking and laughing loudly coming from inside various buildings around her...

She rode past several shops before arriving at the meat shop where she worked part-time killing pigs for extra cash when needed.

As soon as she entered through the back door leading to the slaughterhouse area, Vulture was greeted by familiar faces - Mikey, the owner's son; Roger, one of the butchers; and Bobbie, another worker who helped clean up after each pig got killed...

"Hey there! What brings ya here so early?" Mikey asked cheerfully as he saw Vulture walk in.

Vulture gave him a small smile before replying simply: "Just came by to check on things."

She didn't want them knowing about what happened yesterday or last night...

As soon as Roger and Bobbie noticed her presence too, they quickly stopped what they were doing (cleaning pig blood off the floors) and came over to say hello as well.

"Hey Vulture! How ya doin'?" Roger asked casually while wiping his hands on a dirty apron covered in blood stains...

"Good morning!" Bobbie added cheerfully with a wide grin plastered across his face. "You hungry? There's some leftover bacon from earlier if you want it!"

Vulture politely declined their offers before heading back outside to continue her ride into town...

***

As Vulture rode through the busy streets of town, she passed by many familiar sights - the general store where Layered Big Brother used to hang out with his friends; the tavern where he got drunk last night after betraying her trust...

Vulture gritted her teeth angrily thinking about how much pain that bastard had caused her...

Just then, a young man suddenly emerged from behind one of the buildings and came running towards Vulture's horse at full speed!

"Wait!" he called out desperately as he waved his arms around wildly above his head. "Please help me! I need your skills!"

Vulture stopped short in surprise before turning around slowly to face this stranger...

"What do you want?" she asked suspiciously while keeping a firm grip on her sword handle under her cloak just in case...

The young man looked up at Vurtle with pleading eyes filled with fear and desperation.

"I'm being chased!" he gasped out between heavy breaths. "They're after my family's wealth! You're the only one who can save us now!"

Vulture raised an eyebrow skeptically but didn't move from her spot atop her horse yet...

"Who are they?" she questioned calmly despite feeling slightly annoyed at being interrupted so rudely on such a nice morning ride...

"The bandits!" The young man answered desperately. "They're after my family's wealth! You're the only one who can save us now!"

Vulture rolled her eyes before sighing deeply in resignation...

"Fine," she said finally with a slight smirk tugging at her lips. "I'll help you...

"Thank you!" The young man exclaimed gratefully as he quickly climbed up behind Vulture on her horse without waiting for any further instruction from her...

As they galloped away together towards what would hopefully be safety somewhere else in town, Vulture couldn't help but wonder how many more people were going to try taking advantage of her skills today...

***

Vulture and the young man arrived at a large mansion on the outskirts of town after several hours of riding hard across open fields and through dense forests.

As they approached the front gate, two armed guards blocked their path menacingly with crossed swords pointed directly at them!

"Halt!" One of the guards ordered gruffly. "Nobody goes in or out without permission from the master!"

Vulture jumped down off her horse calmly before drawing her sword slowly while keeping one eye on each guard.

"I'm here to see Lord William," she said sternly, not taking no for an answer.

The guards exchanged a glance before nodding grudgingly at Vulture's confidence and determination in their voices...

"Very well then..." The first guard grumbled reluctantly as he stepped aside to let them pass through the open gates into the courtyard beyond...

As soon as they entered, Vulture saw several more armed men standing around talking amongst themselves nearby - likely more of Lord William's personal guards or soldiers stationed here for protection...

"Who are you?" One of these new guards asked suspiciously as he stepped forward to block their path towards the main entrance.

Vulture ignored him completely and continued walking straight ahead until she reached the front door which was guarded by yet another soldier in full armor holding a huge battle axe over his shoulder menacingly...

"Outta my way!" Vulture commanded him sharply without breaking stride.

The guard raised an eyebrow before quickly moving aside with a smirk on his face as if amused by how brave this strange woman thought she was being...

Vulture marched inside the mansion without hesitation, ignoring all attempts to stop her progress or question who she was there to see...

She walked down long hallways lined with expensive paintings and sculptures until finally arriving at what appeared to be Lord William's study - judging by the massive oak desk piled high with papers and ledgers scattered across its surface.

"Lord William!" Vulture called out loudly as she barged through the open door without knocking first.

Startled, Lord William looked up from his seat behind the desk in surprise at this sudden intrusion...

"You!" He exclaimed angrily as soon as he recognized Vulture standing there boldly before him like some sort of avenging angel come to take revenge on him for past sins committed against her family or something similar...

"Who are you?" Lord William demanded harshly while reaching for the pistol hidden under his desk drawer...

Vulture didn't flinch at all; instead she smiled coldly back at him with a deadly glint in her eyes.

"I am Vulture," she replied simply before raising her sword high above her head and charging straight towards Lord William's position behind the large oak desk!

PART 2

Lord William screamed as he desperately tried to dodge Vulture's incoming blade but it was no use - she had already struck him down hard across his shoulder blades with all her might!

As blood began pouring out from the deep gash on Lord William's back, Vulture wasted no time in quickly removing any weapons or valuables from off him before tying him up tightly using strips of cloth ripped from his own expensive silk robes...

"Stay still," Vulture commanded coldly as she finished binding Lord William's hands behind his back.

Lord William whimpered pathetically in pain but didn't dare say another word for fear of being cut again...

Vulture then turned her attention to the young man who had brought her here.

"You," she said sternly while pointing her sword directly at his chest. "Explain yourself right now before I lose my patience with you too..."

The young man gulped nervously but began speaking rapidly:

"My name is James! And I'm a member of the wealthy Hargrove family!" He exclaimed proudly.

"Yeah? So what?" Vulture asked skeptically, still keeping her sword aimed at him just in case he tried anything funny...

James continued hurriedly: "Well, last night some bandits broke into our mansion and stole all our money! And they said they'd be back for more if we didn't give them everything else we own too!"

Vulture rolled her eyes before lowering her sword slightly.

"So you came running to me because...?" She prompted him further impatiently.

James shrugged helplessly. "I heard about how you helped that little girl in the village the other day! I figured if anyone could save us, it would be you!"

Vulture sighed deeply before turning back towards Lord William who was still whimpering quietly on the floor...

"Listen up," she said firmly to both men. "If either of you wants this situation resolved quickly without any more blood being spilled, then one of you needs to start talking right now..."

To be continued in part 3...

第76章 Chapter 76

Here is the rewritten chapter:

Chapter 76: The Bandit's Threat

Vulture and James arrived at the Hargrove mansion late in the evening. The guards tried to stop them, but Vulture threatened them with her sword and barged inside.

She found Lord William in his study. They fought, and he was wounded.

James revealed that his family had been robbed by bandits who threatened to return if they didn't give up everything else. He begged Vulture for help saving his family.

Vulture agreed but warned him not to double-cross her like the last one did. She would kill anyone who betrayed her trust again.

The next morning, Vulture woke early and went to town alone. She spotted Ouyang's carriage and followed it.

Ouyang had just killed a man in an alleyway when Vulture caught up to him. They fought fiercely before Vulture got the upper hand.

Vulture demanded to know why he was killing people. Ouyang smirked and said that wasn't any of her business.

Vulture threatened to kill him if he didn't talk. Ouyang finally admitted that he was working for a powerful noble family who wanted the Hargrove's wealth.

Vulture realized she needed more information before confronting them directly. She decided to follow Ouyang back to their mansion instead.

PART 2

Vulture followed Ouyang from a distance, keeping out of sight.

Ouyang led her to the gates of a grand mansion on the outskirts of town. She hid nearby and observed the comings and goings for several hours before making her move.

When night fell, Vulture slipped inside the mansion unnoticed. She moved silently through the darkened halls until she found herself face-to-face with Ouyang again.

This time, she didn't give him a chance to react before slamming his head against the wall.

"Where are the Hargrove's?" Vulture demanded coldly as Ouyang slumped to the floor in pain.

Ouyang spat out blood and cursed at her through gritted teeth. "You'll never get your hands on them, you stupid bitch!"

Vulture smiled cruelly and pressed her sword against his throat.

"Wrong answer," she purred. "Let me make this clear - I will find the Hargrove's no matter what. But if you help me now, maybe I'll let you live to see another day."

Ouyang glared at her hatefully but finally broke under her pressure.

"They're being held in the cellar," he snarled. "Go to hell!"

Vulture laughed and kicked him hard in the chest before walking off to find James and his family.

PART 3

Vulture made her way downstairs to the mansion's cellar. She could hear muffled cries for help coming from behind a heavy wooden door at the end of the hall.

She tried the handle but it was locked tight. Vulture growled in annoyance and kicked the door hard with all her might!

The door caved inwards with a loud crack, revealing James and his family bound and gagged inside! Vulture rushed forward to untie them quickly as they stared at her in shock.

"Come on!" She urged impatiently once everyone was free. "We need to get out of here before those bastards come back!"

James nodded frantically and led the way upstairs through a series of secret passages known only to him and his family members.

They emerged outside safely but were still shaken by their near-death experience. Vulture knew they needed time to recover before dealing with any further threats against them or her own personal vendetta against those responsible for this mess!

PART 4

Vulture followed Ouyang's carriage back to the mansion where he had led James and his family earlier that day.

She slipped inside unnoticed again, this time determined to get some answers out of him regarding who exactly was behind all these attacks on her loved ones!

Ouyang was still passed out cold from when she slammed his head against the wall hours ago. Vulture dragged his unconscious body into a secluded room and tied him securely to a chair.

When Ouyang finally came to, he found himself face-to-face with an angry-looking Vulture holding a knife mere inches from his throat!

"What do you want?" He snarled defiantly despite being completely at her mercy.

Vulture smirked coldly. "I want the truth about who's been targeting my family," she said simply.

Ouyang glared hatefully back at her but remained stubbornly silent under threat of death or worse torture methods if he refused to cooperate...

PART 5

Vulture pressed the knife harder against Ouyang's throat until a tiny bead of blood formed where it touched his skin.

"Last chance," she growled lowly. "Tell me now before I lose my patience completely."

Ouyang gulped dryly but still refused to talk, glaring at Vulture with pure hatred in his eyes even as the tip of her blade dug deeper into his flesh...

Just then, sudden footsteps could be heard approaching rapidly from outside the door!

Vulture quickly hid behind a nearby curtain just as the door swung open revealing none other than Ouyang's master standing there looking furious!

"What are you doing here?" The nobleman demanded angrily at Ouyang who was still tied up in the chair bleeding from his neck.

"I...I..." Ouyang stammered nervously looking between Vulture and his master.

The nobleman followed his gaze towards where Vulture was hiding, a dangerous glint appearing in his eyes...

"Who's there?" He demanded loudly as he began advancing menacingly into the room!

PART 6

Vulture stepped out from behind the curtain with her sword drawn. The nobleman stopped dead in his tracks when he saw who it was that had been threatening Ouyang.

"You!" He snarled angrily at Vulture. "How dare you come into my house and threaten one of my men!"

Ouyang looked relieved to see his master but also terrified for what might happen next.

Vulture simply smiled coldly back at the nobleman.

"I came here looking for answers," she said calmly. "And since your man seems unable or unwilling to give them, I'll just have to get them myself."

PART 7

Vulture pointed her sword at the nobleman's chest menacingly.

"You're going to tell me everything you know about those attacks on my family," she demanded coldly. "And if you try anything funny, I swear I'll cut your balls off right here!"

The nobleman gulped nervously but stood his ground defiantly.

"Don't think you scare me, you stupid bitch!" He spat back at her angrily. "I have powerful friends who will skin you alive for this insolence alone!"

Vulture just laughed mockingly in response...

"You're welcome to try," she purred wickedly before lunging forward with her sword aimed straight for the nobleman's heart!

PART 8

Vulture plunged her sword deep into the nobleman's chest, twisting it cruelly as he let out a gurgling cry of pain.

Blood sprayed everywhere from his wounds as Vulture withdrew her blade and watched him collapse to the floor in a heaping mess of blood and guts.

Ouyang looked on in shock and horror at what had just happened right before his eyes!

"Wh-what have you done?" He stammered in disbelief even as he struggled futilely against his bonds trying desperately to escape this nightmare!

Vulture turned towards him with a sadistic grin on her face...

"Just cleaning up some trash," she replied casually before walking over and slitting Ouyang's throat from ear-to-ear with one swift motion without even breaking stride!

PART 9

Vulture cleaned off the blood from her sword onto the nobleman's ruined clothing before sheathing it back at her waist.

She glanced around the room casually, taking in all the expensive furnishings and decorations. A cruel smile tugged on her lips as she realized how much pleasure it would give her to destroy every last bit of this opulent mansion just like she had destroyed its owners!

But first things first...

Vulture walked over to where Ouyang's body lay lifelessly on the floor in a growing puddle of blood. She nudged him with her boot contemptuously before spitting on his corpse.

"You were nothing but a lowly dog," she sneered down at him hatefully. "And now you've gotten what you deserved for betraying me!"

PART 10

Vulture turned towards the door just as it burst open revealing several armed guards rushing inside!

"Intruder alert! Someone's broken in!" One of them shouted frantically waving his gun around wildly.

Vulture didn't even flinch at their sudden appearance. Instead, she calmly drew her sword again and charged straight towards them with lightning speed!

Before they could react, Vulture had already disarmed two guards by swiping cleanly through each of their throats while simultaneously dodging a bullet from another guard's gun...

"Shit! It's that crazy bitch!" One of the remaining guards cried out in shock before turning tail and fleeing back towards safety outside!

Finally reaching him, she grabbed hold of his gun hand and twisted it hard behind his back until he cried out in pain and dropped the weapon to the floor...

Vulture kicked the gun away before delivering a brutal punch directly to the guard's face knocking him unconscious instantly!

Just then, more footsteps could be heard coming from outside once more...

"Vulture? Please answer me!" He called out again desperately searching every nook and cranny of the room for any sign of her presence.

Just then, he heard a faint noise coming from behind one of the bookcases...

Layered Big Brother quickly moved towards it only to find Vulture standing there with blood all over her clothes!

"Thank goodness you're alright!" He exclaimed in relief before noticing how furious she looked. "What happened here?"

"I...I'm sorry," he stammered out weakly. "I never meant to betray your trust."

Vulture scoffed harshly and kicked a nearby chair in frustration.

"Your apology is too late!" She spat venomously at him. "You ruined everything between us!"

Layered Big Brother hung his head in shame but didn't dare try defending himself knowing she was right.

"I understand," he said softly after a moment of silence. "But please tell me what happened here... Was it Ouyang?"

Vulture nodded curtly before recounting the events leading up to this moment - how she had followed Ouyang back to the mansion and confronted him for answers about who was behind all the attacks on her family...

Once inside, she laid Layered Big Brother down on the bed gently and began examining his wounds more closely under the dim light of an oil lamp...

Ouyang's master gulped nervously but spoke truthfully knowing full well that lying would mean certain death at this point.

But there was no response from him; he remained unresponsive even as more blood continued seeping out from his wounds onto the sheets beneath them...

Vulture felt tears well up in her eyes seeing him like this - so helpless and vulnerable - but she refused to break down now. She had to stay strong for both their sakes!

The banquet had come to an end, and Vulture finally had a chance to take a breather. She sat in the pavilion, enjoying the cool evening breeze as she reflected on everything that had happened."

"To think I actually let down my guard around a man," she mused bitterly. "But it was worth it. The information he provided will be invaluable."

Her thoughts were interrupted by a knock at the door. "Come in," Vulture called out.

The door opened to reveal Ouyang, flanked by two burly men. He grinned at her lecherously. "I heard you're looking for me, Vulture? Well here I am~"

Vulture narrowed her eyes at him coldly. "Did you think I wouldn't notice your schemes?"

Ouyang's smile vanished instantly as he realized his mistake. He quickly tried to backpedal. "No no, you've got it wrong! I was just trying to help!"

But Vulture wasn't buying it. She rose to her feet slowly, a dangerous glint in her eyes. "You dare try to trick me? I should kill you where you stand."

Ouyang's face went ashen with fear. He knew he had no chance against her in combat.

Vulture took a step towards him, her voice low and menacing. "But since you're so keen on helping... I'll give you a chance to prove yourself."

She walked up close to Ouyang, grabbing his collar tightly. "Go find out what happened to Hargrove's money. And if you try any more tricks..."

Vulture leaned in close until her lips brushed against Ouyang's ear. "...I'll make sure you regret it for the rest of your miserable life."

She shoved him away roughly and turned on her heel, leaving him standing there shaking.

The next morning, Vulture went to visit Lord William at his estate. She was ushered into his study where he sat behind a large desk, looking haggard and ill.

Lord William looked up when she entered, his eyes widening in shock. "Vulture! What are you doing here?" He quickly tried to cover up the evidence on his desk.

"Looking for answers," Vulture replied coolly as she walked over to the desk. "And I think you're just the man to give them to me."

She sat down across from him, crossing one leg over the other casually. "You see, I have reason to believe that you were involved in my family's demise. And I want to know why."

Lord William gulped nervously, his Adam's apple bobbing up and down. He tried to keep his composure but his hands were shaking slightly. "I...I don't know what you're talking about..."

Vulture leaned forward suddenly, slamming her fist on the desk. "Don't lie to me! I know it was you!"

Lord William flinched at the outburst before forcing himself to laugh weakly. "Vulture, please, this is absurd. I would never do such a thing."

"Then why did you attack my family?" Vulture demanded.

"I..." Lord William's voice wavered as he tried to come up with an excuse. But he knew there was no way out of this. She had him cornered.

Vulture reached across the desk, grabbing Lord William by his collar and pulling him close until their faces were mere inches apart. "Tell me the truth," she growled dangerously low in his ear.

Lord William closed his eyes, resigning himself to whatever fate awaited him at her hands. "...It was Hargrove's idea."

Vulture released him with a shove, sitting back down as she looked at him coldly. "What do you mean?"

"I...I was just following orders..." Lord William stammered out meekly.

"And who gave those orders?" Vulture pressed on mercilessly.

Lord William swallowed hard before finally breaking down and confessing everything. "...Ouyang."

Vulture narrowed her eyes at him coldly. "You're lying again."

"No no, I swear it's true!" Lord William cried out desperately. "He told me to attack your family!"

"Why would he do that?" Vulture demanded.

"He...he said that if we got rid of your family, then you wouldn't be a threat anymore..." Lord William trailed off weakly as he realized how pathetic his excuse sounded even to himself. But it was the truth - he had no choice but to obey Ouyang's commands back then; now all he could hope for was mercy from this woman who held his life in her hands...

"It...it was all Ouyang's idea..." Lord William stammered out meekly.

"Liar!" Vulture snarled, her eyes flashing with rage. She slammed her fist on the desk again before leaning forward and grabbing Lord William by his shirt collar once more. "Tell me everything!"

Lord William trembled violently in her iron grip as he confessed everything that had happened leading up to this moment. When he finished speaking, Vulture released him with a rough shove and stood up.

"That's all I need from you," she said coldly before turning on her heel and walking out of the study without another word.

**Chapter 80: The Banquet**

Vulture sat in the pavilion, enjoying the cool evening breeze as she reflected on everything that had happened. "To think I actually let down my guard around a man," she mused bitterly. But it was worth it for the information he provided.

Her thoughts were interrupted by a knock at the door. "Come in," Vulture called out.

The door opened to reveal Ouyang, flanked by two burly men. He grinned lecherously at her. "I heard you're looking for me, Vulture? Well here I am~"

Vulture narrowed her eyes coldly. "Did you think I wouldn't notice your schemes?"

Ouyang's smile vanished instantly as he realized his mistake. He quickly tried to backpedal. "N-no, you've got it wrong! I was just trying to help!"

But Vulture wasn't buying it. She rose slowly to her feet, a dangerous glint in her eyes. "You dare try to trick me? I should kill you where you stand."

Ouyang's face went ashen with fear. He knew he had no chance against her in combat.

Vulture took a step towards him, her voice low and menacing. "But since you're so keen on helping...I'll give you a chance to prove yourself."

The Vulture arrived at the medical center and knocked on the door. "Come in," a voice called out.

She walked over to him without replying and grabbed him by the collar roughly, pulling him close until their faces were mere inches apart. "I know everything," she growled dangerously low in his ear.

Ouyang's face went pale and he started stammering nervously. "N-no, you've got it wrong! I was just trying to help!"

Chapter 84 - Part 1

The night was quiet, save for the sounds of insects chirping. Vulture sat alone in her room, going over the events of the day.

Ouyang's task had been completed, and he reported back to her with the information she needed. Hargrove had stolen a vast sum of money from the Ouyang family coffers. It seemed that Ouyang had been the mastermind behind the attacks on Vulture's family after all.

But why would Hargrove do such a thing? What was his motive?

Vulture frowned, deep in thought. She needed to get to the bottom of this.

The next morning, she visited Lord William at his estate. His butler showed her into his study, where he sat behind an imposing desk.

"Lady Vulture," Lord William began, his voice tight with tension. "To what do I owe the pleasure of this visit?"

Vulture walked closer to the desk, her eyes narrowing. "I think you know why I'm here, Lord William."

He shifted uncomfortably in his seat. "I don't know what you're talking about."

"Don't play dumb with me." Vulture's voice was low and dangerous. "I want the truth, and I want it now."

Lord William swallowed hard, his face paling. He knew he couldn't lie to her. She would find out the truth eventually.

"It...it was Hargrove's idea..." he stammered out weakly.

Vulture grabbed him by the collar, pulling him close until their faces were mere inches apart. "What do you mean?"

Lord William closed his eyes, resigning himself to whatever fate awaited him at her hands. "...It was Ouyang's idea."

Vulture released him with a rough shove, sitting back down and looking at him coldly. "That's all I need from you," she said, before turning on her heel and walking out of the study without another word.
